We washed every dog in the shelter (except those few who couldn't have a bath for some reason), and
we had fun and we are tired! We sudsed, clipped nails, cleaned ears, snipped matted fur...
thanks to Emily, James and Janet, Janelle and Joanna, Gwynne, Dani, Jamie and Dan, Kathleen,
Ali, Debbie, Priscilla, Stephanie, Daniel and Katy, Billye, Gene, Jamie and friend, Julie G,
Bret and Jennifer, Pat, Salina, Alexis, Jean and Kerri...(hope I didn't forget anyone) and
Nathan, Dwayne, Sheldon and the staff who were a huge help.
Our website now gets 43,000 hits per month!
Lutheran High has invited us to bring some adoptables to Oktoberfest, Sat. 10/18. That is the
day of our Walk for the animals, but if you would like to take a dog over there, or perhaps
after Walk, (they will be there until 5-- the Walk is over at noon) let me know
The Animal Rescue Site is an organization that donates food to shelters by the number of
visits to the site. The food is paid for by companies that put ads on their site for you to
look at (or not, although we should work with companies who help animals). To get more clicks
to their site (and more food to the animals) they have set up a contest, where whichever
shelter gets the most votes per week gets $1,000.To vote for HSPC, click

KARK is having us on their 11 am show on October 16. We need 4 - 5 people with their dogs in
Halloween costumes for the show. It can be shelter dogs, or your own dogs you've adopted from us (preferably). It would be nice to say in the segment that they are all HSPC dogs.
Everyone would need to arrive at KARK no later than 10:40 am.
Let me know if you can help.
Susann is coordinating classes for anyone interested in working directly with our dogs.
The classes are led by Cindy and Phyllis. If you are interested, contact Susann at
gotsusann@gmail.com.,
Dog Walker Orientation is a one day, two hour class that will teach you the do's and don'ts
of shelter dog walking..
Dog Training Classes are four-week courses (2 hours per class for each of 4 consecutive
Saturdays) that teach our dogs the basics of canine "good citizenship", make them more
adoptable, and the dogs and trainers have a lot of fun and learn a new skill. So contact
Susann for either of these.
Or just let Susann know if you would like to meet her there to get started volunteering.
She will be happy to show you how, and introduce you to our "regulars"... a great group of
people who welcome help in getting the dogs out to play and exercise
And there is a blue binder on the front counter to write notes on the dogs you work with...to
pass on to other volunteers and potential adopters
.
**Laura is plannng similar training for people interested in knowing more about working with
our cats. Those classes will be on alternate Monday nights at 6. Contact Laura to sign up for
the first class, at laurajade76@yahoo.com
