Since 2006, Bank of America and Hill's Pet Nutrition have teamed up to offer people two new credit cards featuring a photo of your pet. You upload a photo of your dog, cat, horse, hamster, or hedgehog at the official website of either the PetRewards® Visa® Credit Card or the PetRewards® Platinum Plus® Visa®: Credit Card. Cards gather two reward points (2%) for every dollar spent at participating veterinary clinics, major pet retailers, farm and feed stores, and neighborhood pet specialty stores. It also collects one point for every dollar spent on other purchases.

How can this help HSPC? You have the option to donate accumulated points to your favorite shelters.

At this time, however, donations are NOT automatic: card holders with >1,000 points must visit Bank of America's SHELTER DONATION WEB PAGE; log in; search for the Humane Society of Pulaski County (e.g., by zip code 72210); and specify how many 1,000-point ($10) blocks they wish to donate.

American Express GivingExpress®

American Express and the nonprofit organization JustGive.org offer this terrific program for donating to charities; powered by GuideStar®, you get IRS-usable receipts and you can even arrange for monthly (or other recurrent) donations! From their literature:

Give to the charity of your choice by donating with your American Express Card. Donations can be made in dollars or Membership Rewards® points. Your dollar donation is tax deductible and you will receive an e-mail receipt that meets IRS requirements as a record of your contribution. The site also enables you to set up recurring donations to your favorite charity. Plus, you can earn Membership Rewards points for donations made on an eligible, enrolled Card.
