SB 777 has been set for a special order of business before the Senate Judiciary next Wednesday, March 14
at 10:30 a.m. at the State Capitol in Little Rock (room assignment to come). We have good support
in the Senate Judiciary (4 of the bill's co-sponsors are members of the 8 person committee), but we need
to make a VERY good showing to impress the full Senate (because we still have lots of folks to
convince there). We will need lots of warm bodies at the Capitol for the hearing. PLEASE be there
if you can (and bring friends and family!!), and spread the word to others. To get this bill
passed, we can assume nothing and underestimate no one, so we must take each step very seriously.
This will not be our only committee hearing, as we will also be before a House committee at some
point. We will need as good a showing there, if not better than in the Senate, so keep that in
mind when making your plans to attend.
The Farm Bureau's bill, SB 794, is on hold. Senator Jeffress has agreed to hold the bill until
SB 777 has made its way through the process. But, Farm Bureau is working extremely hard to defeat
SB 777. Remember that they have paid lobbyists on the ground in Little Rock. We do not, so it
is all the more important that we continue to spread the word about SB 777 and that we contact our
legislators to ask for their support.
Also, if you have a good relationship with your legislator, encourage him or her to join the bill
as a co-sponsor. Through some of your efforts, we have picked up an additional co-sponsor in the
House, Rep. David Johnson (D-Little Rock).
Keep up the good work, and thanks to everyone for your efforts!
See you in Little Rock.
