SB777 (Animal Abuse as a Felony ) UPDATE: See our website for the latest. A new House bill is being introduced Monday to undermine SB777. Check our website www.warmhearts.org for what you can do to help

***From Phyllis: HSPC Dog Training will begin another 4-week session starting Saturday, March 24 If you plan to attend, please email me at www.phyllisdogtraining@hotmail.com and indicate if you have a preference in the dog you will be training. There are several dogs we can suggest if you need a dog. When I hear from you I will send an updated flier about the training. Graduates Justin, Scott, and Amadeus were adopted from our last class!!

*** We would like a foster (or permanent) home for an older Boston Terrier. He came to us with a bad skin condition. He had no fur at all, was totally pink. His fur is now coming in nice and even, and he looks less pink every day. A less stressful place than the shelter would do wonders for him. If interested, let me know.

***The St Patrick's Day parade went well, after a few front-end problems. The dogs had a great time out in the beautiful weather. I have a few pictures, if anyone is interested. Thanks to Cathy, Mike and Lara, Kim and family, Andrea and Ashlyn, Robin, Jesalyn and friends, Kimber, Alexis, Kyla and Tony...and please thank all the friends of volunteers who came and helped.

*** April 21, 2007 is the deadline for children grades K-8 to combine their love of animals and of drawing in the Humane Society of Pulaski County 's Art Contest and Exhibition. Cash and other prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third places in each category based on the message, originality and creativity of entries. See our website for details, and for a printable entry form

***If you are interested in helping with the 2008 Dayplanner, but could not make the meeting, let me know, and I will put you in touch with the committee chairmen. Or contact Suzanne Hamilton 2008 Chairman suzham@aristotle.net 225-1959 and she will tell you all about it. And if you want to buy a page, the forms are on on the website.

***Our 2007 Dog Wash schedule has been established. Once again, first Saturdays May through September, trinity United Methodist Church; Third Saturdays, Kroger in the Heights, fourth Saturdays June,July and August, First United Methodist Church in NLR. We give sincere thanks to the churches and Kroger for allowing us to use their facilities for our Dog Washes, and for allowing us to maintain the same schedule year after year. We look forward to seeing lots of our dog friends, (and their humans), and making lots of money for HSPC! We will have a printable calendar on the website as we get loser to Dog Wash season.

****Our KROGER CARDS made us $490 last month. That's not very good, especially since we sold so many!! If you don't have an HSPC Kroger card, please get one. If you have one, don't forget to use it, and if you don't know about them, let me know and I will explain this painless way to make money for the shelter. The trick is to remember to use them!! Note--you can only purchase HSPC Kroger Gift Cards through us--at the shelter, the Mall store, or by mail.

Whiskers at the Mall, our off-site adoption center and store, needs someone to take over management from Chris. Chris has done a fabulous job for several years, but has other demands on his time now. It is a great, fun place to volunteer. We have a dedicated group of volunteers that work hard and are committed to finding good homes. I believe that the main criteria is having a flexible schedule on Saturdays. The manager doesn't have to be there all the time, but really needs to be available to be there when coverage is needed, as well as schedule the volunteers and transports each week, keep the inventory current, and the store looking good. Chris will train you. If you are interested, let me know. If you want more details, or want to help at the store next week, contact Chris at: ellischris@uams.edu.

We can always use HELP AT THE SHELTER---walking dogs, taking them out to our dog park, brushing cats, playing with cats, and helping potential adopters choose the perfect pet.

**If you no longer wish to receive these newsletters each week, let me know, and I will remove you from the list. Also, if you have a UAMS address, let me know if you are receiving them. I have a feeling my new gmail address might be blocked.

Also, they sometimes are marked "spam" because I send so many at once.

** Please encourage people you know to give a shelter animal a chance, or consider fostering an animal for a while. We have had a lot of adoptions of animals in foster care.

Adoptions: Salsa; Lucy; Hero; Sabria; Bronson; Dayton; Adrienne, Gabrielle, and lots of puppies!

New Volunteers: Pat Williams;Marian Hart;Denver,Beth and Emily Sullivan; Renee Kimmer; Oliver and Rose of Sharon Williams; Jennifer Jeffers; Patty Ware; Noelle Magini; Lucas Moore; Grace Rich; Melissa Nichols; Chris Morgan; Elaine Zhou; Carla and Lauren Boatright; JoAnna Jones; Donna Nichols (we had a really big group at orientation!)

**Next volunteer Orientation: Monday March 26, 6PM at the shelter.
