SB777 (Animal Abuse as a Felony ) UPDATE: There will be a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday morning. ANYONE AND EVERYONE.... PLEASE TRY TO BE THERE...it's very important to show the Capitol where we stand on felony cruelty. Please, if you bring any signs…just have them say something simple like..."I support SB 777". I think it will start at 10:00AM but everyone needs to be there by 9:00AM if possible. Hopefully Dr. Bob Hale and Dan Bugg will be speaking... we are trying for a couple of others. You will not be required to speak...just please be there.

****************************************************** We need a foster home for Tanya, a pretty Boxer mix, and her eight newborn puppies. Tanya is very sweet, loves kids, and is taking very good care of her puppies. But the shelter is a stressful place for a new family. They'd do so much better in a home. I have a picture. Let me know if interested. Of course, we provide food and supplies, and take them all back when they are ready for adoption.

*** We also would like a foster (or permanent) home for an older Boston Terrier. He came to us with a bad skin condition. He had no fur at all, was totally pink. His fur is now coming in nice and even, and he looks less pink every day. A less stressful place than the shelter would do wonders for him. If interested, let me know.

It looks like we can do the St Patrick's day parade! So far we have: Alexis, Cathy, Kim and Isabel Kyla and Tony, Andrea and Ashlyn, Paula and Racheal, Lara and Michael and eight of their friends! (Did I miss anyone who offered?) The more the merrier. The parade starts at Clinton Library at one , walks up Clinton Ave, over the bridge to NLR. I have hats, kerchiefs, beads, and our banner at the shelter. I hope to have someone to drive our van, for any dogs who get tired. Please try to be at the shelter by noon to choose and get your dog ready. Depending on how many actually come, dogs may have to be shared, but it is always better to have more people than dogs! And we do not go if it is raining! The website is www.lririshparade.com

If you are interested in helping with the 2008 Dayplanner, but could not make the meeting, let me know, and I will put you in touch with the committee chairmen. Or contact Suzanne Hamilton 2008 Chairman suzham@aristotle.net 225-1959 and she will tell you all about it. And if you want to buy a page, the forms are on on the website.

****Our KROGER CARDS made us $490 last month. That's not very good, especially since we sold so many!! If you don't have an HSPC Kroger card, please get one. If you have one, don't forget to use it, and if you don't know about them, let me know and I will explain this painless way to make money for the shelter. The trick is to remember to use them!! Note--you can only purchase HSPC Kroger Gift Cards through us--at the shelter, the Mall store, or by mail.

Whiskers at the Mall, our off-site adoption center and store, needs someone to take over management from Chris. Chris has done a fabulous job for several years, but has other demands on his time now. It is a great, fun place to volunteer. We have a dedicated group of volunteers that work hard and are committed to finding good homes. I believe that the main criteria is having a flexible schedule on Saturdays. The manager doesn't have to be there all the time, but really needs to be available to be there when coverage is needed, as well as schedule the volunteers and transports each week, keep the inventory current, and the store looking good. Chris will train you. If you are interested, let me know. If you want more details, or want to help at the store next week, contact Chris at: ellischris@uams.edu.

The Parisian shop at the Pleasant Ridge Shopping Center on Cantrell, is having a charity day March 24; If you buy a ticket for $5, you get to attend a special sale 6-10AM (!), where they will have reductions on items that never otherwise go on sale, like Donald Pliner and Dooney and Burke handbags, and special reductions on other items as well. The sale ends at 10AM I will have a complete list later, when I pick up the brochures. We get the $5 for every ticket sold, and we can also have adoptables there. So if you are interested in tickets, or would want to show dogs at a table outside, let me know. I think we can show dogs all day, not just 6-10. I will have more information Wednesday.

We can always use HELP AT THE SHELTER---walking dogs, taking them out to our dog park, brushing cats, playing with cats, and helping potential adopters choose the perfect pet.

**If you no longer wish to receive these newsletters each week, let me know, and I will remove you from the list. Also, they sometimes are marked "spam" because I send so many at once.

** Please encourage people you know to give a shelter animal a chance, or consider fostering an animal for a while. We have had a lot of adoptions of animals in foster care.

Adoptions: Amadeus; Shelby V; Balsa; Josh; Matt; Lovely; Merry; Jennie; Kitty; Dominique; Possum

New Volunteer: Sharon Morris

**Next volunteer Orientation: Monday March 12, 6PM at the shelter.
