We need a foster home for Apple, a 16 week-old hound puppy. Apple's malnutrition was so bad
when we got her, that she couldn't stand. Her front legs are in splints. She needs four short,
easy walks a day; she gets around fine, and was running around the clinic when I saw her.She is
also recovering from mange. She is very, very cute, I have pictures if you are interested. And
the Weimaraner was going into labor as I was leaving the shelter tonight. So, we'd like a foster home for that family, too, if we can find one. The German Shepherd has been placed, thank you everyone who offered to help.
And Rosie, a blind Rotti mix. She is sweet and smart, housebroken, and not very large. It would be
great if she was in a home with someone who knew blind dogs, and no cats!!(Rosie is on the website)
Also Michelle, a beautiful Chocolate lab, recovering from surgery for a broken pelvis and leg
from a car accident. She is sweet and beautiful, and loves people. She is mobile, and walks,
but slowly and gently. You can see her on our website.
Saturday is our first Kroger Dog Wash. Kroger in the Heights, Cantrell and Polk. We start
setting up at 8:30, and always need help. Last Dog Wash was great, we had so many volunteers!
Let me know if you can help, and what time.
Stephanie has very generously donated some special Bath Junkie Dog Shampoo for us to sell to
raise money. All proceeds will come to HSPC!
HSPC is now taking part in a recycling for cash program. Bring your old cell phones, toner
cartridges and ink jet cartridges to the shelter or the mall store, and we turn them in for cash.
Don't forget June 1 is the deadline for DayPlanner page applications. Pictures can come a
bit later, but pages must be reserved by June 1. You can download an application form the website!
Our Kroger cards made $556 last month. Please remember to use them!!! You can purchase them at
the shelter, and Whiskers at the Mall.(You can't buy them at Kroger!) If you don't know how they
work, let me know and I will explain. It is a painless way to make money for HSPC.
We want to thank all the KickBall players who donated to animal agencies at their recent
tournament. HSPC got a huge amount of collars, leashes, toys, shampoo and other wonderful dog and
cat items.
Thanks to all the new volunteers who have jumped in and are helping at the shelter. I see a lot of
you taking dogs out to play. It's great to see them running around and splashing in the dog pools. And special thanks to Judy and Sandra, who have been doing regular Sunday (and other) shifts in the cat room for years!
If you are interested in going on a Puppy Love visit, or finding out more about the Puppy Love
program, contact Amanda at : acarter01@yahoo.com . Amanda has recently updated her schedule
Also, Mary and Leigh make regular visits to Women and Children First, from 10-11, and third
Saturdays at Dorcas House, also 10-11. If you would like to go on one of these visits, let Mary
know at mmstephens@ashland.com .
Encourage people you know to come down and adopt or foster animals for us. We have so many
more than we have room for! And there are some really great dogs and cats there..
Whiskers at the Mall, our off-site adoption center and store, always needs help. Contact
Chris at: ellischris@uams.edu .
We can always use HELP AT THE SHELTER---walking dogs, taking them out to our dog park,
brushing cats, playing with cats, cleaning cages, checking water bowls....and helping potential
adopters choose the perfect pet.
