- -HSPC Newsletter 7 /16/07 Our Puppy Room Renovation will take about another two weeks, so we could still use some short-term fosters. Any dog you could foster will open up a cage for these displaced dogs!

We also need a foster or permanent home for an older (9) Aussie, and a small (6) Beagle mix; their owner has to give them up for health reasons. They are outdoor dogs, and come with their own dog houses. They are sweet, quiet, loving girls.

Dog Wash Saturday 7/21 at Kroger, 7/21; We need help!!! Let me know which shift you can do. And don't forget 7/28 at North Little Rock. .contact mary at mmstephens@ashland.com

. Our Annual Meeting will be held Sunday, July 22, at 2PM in our rear Dog Park, under the shade trees. All are welcome.

Monday, July 23 will be Humane Society night with the Traveler's at the new Dickey-Stephens Stadium in North Little Rock. Although we have all the volunteers needed for the event at this time, it would be great for members and volunteers to come out in their HSPC t-shirts and show support for the group, and especially the three adoptables that will be the stars of the evening. Your special admission to the game is $3.00 off with the donation of leashes or dog/cats toys.

The Little Rock Volley Ball League is holding the 2nd Annual Volley for Paws, and will again make us the beneficiary of their tournament in Murray Park. The date is August 18 and we need to take adoptables. The players were disappointed that we didn't have any there last year! This raises a lot of money for HSPC, plus...there are people eager to meet and adopt our dogs. Please think about escorting your favorite dog! It will held be held at Murray Park again down by the river at the City of Little Rock Grass Volleyball Courts.

The shelter is having adoption specials in July; the cost of adopting a cat or dog, kitten or puppy, is be $50 instead of $75; it will still include everything---shots, spay, etc. So if you were thinking of adopting, this should be a little incentive.

Our Kroger cards made $698.50 for June. Please remember to use them. You can purchase them at the shelter, or at our Mall store. (You can't get them at Kroger). If you don't know how they work, let me know and I'll explain this painless way to make money for the shelter.

We have a wonderful Humane Ed program going, so if you know of anyone who would like Christine to come to your school, library, daycare, church, business…to do a program on animal care, and bring puppies!!!...let me know. Christine is now a Certified Humane Educator, and does a wonderful job

Critter Camp July 13 and 27, August 10 and 24 Christine will do a Humane Ed program, such as basic animal care and safety, along with interactive programs like playing with puppies in the dog park, visiting kitties in the cat room, and story-telling. We are flexible on ages, but would like to limit each session to 12. Parents do not have to stay, and we will have cool drinks. Kids can bring sack lunches. Contact me if you are interested in bringing your children, or helping (or both!) July is all booked, some spots available in August. We have gotten a great response Info@warmhearts.org or 580-2966 after 5PM.

July 20 (NOTE CORRECT DATE!) 6-10 PM Martial Arts Competition at RiverMarket Amphitheater. We will get 25% of the income from beer and soft drinks. We need to provide a few volunteers to sell the drinks. This is mainly a kick-boxing and Brazilian JiJitsu competition. Robert and Ann are helping, as well as Mary, Justin and Jessica, Jerod, and a few others. We still need a few more!! This could be a fun event for those interested in martial arts.

October 26, 27, 28 Racquets and Paws Tennis Tournament benefiting HSPC We will want to take adoptables

November 3—Reigning Cats and Dogs at the DoubleTree. If you would like to solicit items for the event, contact Debbie at 455-2909 or nicsmom5@aristotle.net . Here's a note from Debbie: Hey Everybody! Yes, it is definitely that time of year again. Reigning will be held on November 3. At this point, solicitation letters have all gone out ,and we have received several donations already. It is now time to make phone calls & do footwork to get those items in. If you would like to help again this year, please let me know. There will be a later meeting for those who want to help at the event itself. Thanks! Debbie

Saturday October 20 from 11-2 there will be a program for people with disabilities, in Murray Park. They have asked us to bring some dogs for the attendees to play with. If some volunteers would be willing to take some, that would be very nice. The dogs love an outing, too!

Whiskers at the Mall, our off-site adoption center and store needs help. They really need a new manager, Chris would like to be able to spend less time there. If you want to help Saturday July 21, (or take over as manager!), contact Chris at ellischris@uams.edu

Puppy Love If you would like to take puppies to visit folks at nursing homes, assisted living facilities, etc, contact Amanda at acarter01@yahoo.com for the schedule; Mary and Leigh make regular visits to Women and Children First on first Saturdays 10-11, and third Saturdays at Dorcas House. If you would like to help at one of these, contact Mary at mmstephens@ashland.com

Encourage people you know to come down and adopt a dog or cat. We have so many more than we have room for. And shelter animals make the best pets!! We have so many wonderful cats and dogs just waiting for a good home. and…dogs having fun in the park are getting adopted faster. People love seeing them having fun, instead of sitting in a cage. And cats need petting and brushing, and everyone needs attention! And you can help keep cages clean and water bowls full.
