One of our volunteers is fostering two of the five lab pups I wrote about a few weeks ago. They are beautiful, quiet pups; she is going on vacation next Tuesday for a week, and needs to leave them with someone for that time. They are very shy, and she has made a lot of progress with them, and is afraid bringing them into the overcrowded shelter will set them back. Anyone want to take care of two shy little lab puppies for a week?

The NLR dog wash raised $414, despite an early afternoon rain out. The highlight of the day was saving a dog wandering in the middle of JFK, a very busy road. The thunderstorm had spooked the dog, but our brave volunteers, and cooperating traffic, allowed us to corral the dog. Luckily, he had contact information on his collar and we were able to return the dog to a very grateful owner. Thanks to volunteers Jenni Diederich, Pat Brower, Hayden Allred, Michael Medlin, Jenny Delgado, Cory Derrick, and Mary and Farrell Stephens.

Next Dog Wash—July 7, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Evergreen and Mississippi; we start setting up at 8:30, and wash dogs until 2. We always need help!

Many of you have heard the story of Missy, the dog that was skinned alive in Benton , Arkansas. The story was aired by KTHV 6-1-07 . Hundreds of concerned animal lovers have expressed outrage and a desire to do something. This group is being formed to present a united front to Arkansas and the rest of the nation in our fight against animal cruelty. This is a forum to gain support, brainstorm ideas, raise funds, anything to bring attention to the heinous nature alarming frequency of animal abuse cases in Arkansas. Missy's Law is a group of citizens across the world dedicated to raising awareness of animal cruelty in Arkansas and the need to pass SB777 (Missy's Law), making animal cruelty a felony in "The Natural State". If you are interested in joining this group, the link is MissysLaw-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Thanks to all the volunteers who took dogs home for a few days while the puppy room is being renovated. I'm sure they all enjoyed a break from the shelter. The room isn't finished yet, so if you would like a furry houseguest for a few days, see Stacy at the shelter

Our Kroger cards made $607 for May. Please remember to use them. You can purchase them at the shelter, or at our Mallstore. (You can't get them at Kroger). If you don't know how they work, let me know and I'll explain this painless way to make money for the shelter.

We have a wonderful Humane Ed program going, so if you know of anyone who would like Christine to come to your school, library, daycare, church, business…to do a program on animal care, and bring puppies!!!...let me know.

Critter Camp June 15 and 22; July 13 and 27, August 10 and 24 Christine will do a Humane Ed program, such as basic animal care and safety, along with interactive programs like playing with puppies in the dog park, visiting kitties in the cat room, and story-telling. We are flexible on ages, but would like to limit each session to 12. Parents do not have to stay, and we will have cool drinks. Kids can bring sack lunches. Contact me if you are interested in bringing your children, or helping (or both!) Info@warmhearts.org or 580-2966 after 5PM.

This could be a fun event for those interested in martial arts.

Whiskers at the Mall, our off-site adoption center and store needs help. They really need a new manager, Chris would like to be able to spend less time there. If you want to help Saturday June 30, (or take over as manager!), contact Chris at ellischris@uams.edu

Puppy Love If you would like to take puppies to visit folks at nursing homes, assisted living facilities, etc, contact Amanda at acarter01@yahoo.com for the schedule; Mary and Leigh make regular visits to Women and Children First on first Saturdays 10-11, and third Saturdays at Dorcas House. If you would like to help at one of these, contact Mary at mmstephens@ashland.com

Encourage people you know to come down and adopt a dog or cat. We have so many more than we have room for. And shelter animals make the best pets!! We have so many wonderful cats and dogs just waiting for a good home... and…dogs having fun in the park are getting adopted faster. People love seeing them having fun, instead of sitting in a cage. And cats need petting and brushing, and everyone needs attention! And you can help keep cages clean and water bowls full.

Adoptions: Willis; Toby; Paulina; Winter; Hope; Manda; Cletus; April Anne; Odis and lots of kittens and puppies.

Next Volunteer Orientation : Monday July 9, 6 PM at the shelter

New Volunteers : Natalie and Erin Mahoney; Kingsley Okoli;Kyle Smith; Stephanie and Daniel Kiel; Morgen Deislinger; Barbara Humphries; Dylan Finkbeiner; Nichole Devin

And check our website www.warmhearts.org I add new animals every Sunday night (and sometimes during the week)
