-- HSPC Newsletter 6/10/07 This week we took in 19 stray puppies (three litters) and they could use foster homes. Several folks are coming to get some, but we still have some needing homes. They are now healthy and ready to go to a foster home for about two weeks. These pups are about 6 weeks old and eat from a dish. They are all adorable—brown fur balls, some fluffier than others, all beautiful. Call Julie or Stacy at the shelter—227-6166. (It is really easier if you take more than one, but it isn't required )

We also took in an adorable little Aussie/Sheltie (or possibly Rat Terrier) mix, and her 4 puppies. They need a foster home, too. Samantha is quite small, probably 20 pounds, very, very friendly, taking good care of the pups in a giant pet carrier. I have a picture, if that will help you decide! And she appears to be housebroken

-- Dog Wash Saturday June 16 at Kroger. We need lots of help… Last week there were very few volunteers. Fortunately, Jerod and Hannah brought friends, or they would have been there alone for some of the time, and it was busy all day. So please think about helping Saturday.

Our Kroger cards made $607 for May. Please remember to use them. You can purchase them at the shelter, or at our Mall store. (You can't get them at Kroger). If you don't know how they work, let me know and I'll explain this painless way to make money for the shelter.

We have a wonderful Humane Ed program going, so if you know of anyone who would like Christine to come to your school, library, daycare, church, business…to do a program on animal care, and bring puppies!!!...let me know.

Critter Camp June 15 and 22; July 13 and 27, August 10 and 24

Christine will do a Humane Ed program, such as basic animal care and safety, along with interactive programs like playing with puppies in the dog park, visiting kitties in the cat room, and story-telling. We are flexible on ages, but would like to limit each session to 12. Parents do not have to stay, and we will have cool drinks. Kids can bring sack lunches. Contact me if you are interested in bringing your children, or helping (or both!) Info@warmhearts.org or 580-2966 after 5PM.

July 28 Martial Arts Competition at RiverMarket Amphitheater. We will get 25% of the income from beer and soft drinks. We need to provide a few volunteers to sell the drinks. This is mainly a kick-boxing and Brazilian JiJitsu competition. Robert and Ann are helping, as well as Mary. We need a few more!!

October 26, 27, 28 Racquets and Paws Tennis Tournament benefiting HSPC We will want to take adoptables

Whiskers at the Mall, our off-site adoption center and store needs help. They really need a new manager, Chris would like to be able to spend less time there. If you want to help Saturday June 16, (or take over as manager!), contact Chris at ellischris@uams.edu

Puppy Love If you would like to take puppies to visit folks at nursing homes, assisted living facilities, etc, contact Amanda at acarter01@yahoo.com for the schedule; Mary and Leigh make regular visits to Women and Children First on first Saturdays 10-11, and third Saturdays at Dorcas House. If you would like to help at one of these, contact Mary at mmstephens@ashland.com

Encourage people you know to come down and adopt a dog or cat. We have so many more than we have room for. And shelter animals make the best pets!! We have so many wonderful cats and dogs just waiting for a good home.

We can always use help at the shelter— You can take dogs out to play in the dog park, and splash in the pools; they really love it, and…dogs having fun in the park are getting adopted faster. People love seeing them having fun, instead of sitting in a cage. And cats need petting and brushing, and everyone needs attention! And you can help keep cages clean and water bowls full.

Adoptions: Hartman; lots of kittens and puppies.

Next Volunteer Orientation: Monday June 11, 6 PM at the shelter

And check our website www.warmhearts.org

I add new animals every Sunday night (and sometimes during the week)
