July 8--Birthday Party

July 28-- There will be a Martial Arts Competition at Rivermarket Amphitheater- We will get a large percentage of the refreshment income; we need to provide volunters to sell beer, or sell non-alcohol drinks. This should be a fun event for those interested in Martial Arts. This is mainly Kick-boxing, and Brazilian JiJitsu. I will have more information later on, but think about helping. Mary will be there, and Ann and Robert, so far

October 26,27,28--Racquets and Paws Tennis Tournament benefiting HSPC

HSPC is now taking part in a recycling for cash program. Bring your old cell phones, toner cartridges and ink jet cartridges to the shelter or the mall store, and we turn them in for cash.

Our Kroger cards made $607 last month. Please remember to use them!!! You can purchase them at the shelter, and Whiskers at the Mall.(You can't buy them at Kroger!) If you don't know how they work, let me know and I will explain. It is a painless way to make money for HS.

We now have a wonderful Humane Ed program, so if your Library, Scout group, church, etc, would like us to provide a program, let me know, and I will put you in touch with Christine, who is running it for HSPC.. AND, we are setting up Humane Ed Days at the shelter one Friday each week during the summer. Christine has special materials and programs, and kids can come to the shelter for a few hours, play with animals in the park, and learn something about animal care, responsible pet ownership, etc. If you would like to help with this, please let me know. We will definitely need help with the kids and animals!

This is now called Critter Camp! The days will be June 15 and 22, July 13 and 27, and August 10 and 24. The program is from 11-3 pm. Christine will include Humane Ed such as basic animal care and safety along with fun interactve programs such as playing with pups/kittens in the park, visiting the cageless catroom, and story telling. This is all free. We are very flexible on ages , but for safety reasons, we need to limit the number of children per session to 12, so please book early! We can accommodate a wide range of ages at one session. The children can bring a sack lunch, and we will provide cold drinks. Christine will need help with these, so if you have a Friday free, please consider helping her. And tell folks you know who have kids. They can be dropped off. This is a suitable activity for a small daycare or summer camp group.

Thanks to all the new volunteers who have jumped in and are helping at the shelter . I see a lot of you taking dogs out to play. It's great to see them running around and splashing in the dog pools. And dogs are getting adopted more easily when people see them running around in the dog park--seeing them having fun insteadiof barking initheir cages makes them a lot more adoptable! Thanks to the folks who have been getting them out, and helping with adoptions.

If you are interested in going on a Puppy Love visit, or finding out more about the Puppy Love program, contact Amanda at : acarter01@yahoo. com . Amanda has recently updated her schedule Also, Mary and Leigh make regular visits to Women and Children First, from 10-11, and third Saturdays at Dorcas House, also 10-11. If you would like to go on one of these visits, let Mary know at mmstephens@ashland.com .

Encourage people you know to come down and adopt or foster animals for us. We have so many more than we have room for! And there are some really great dogs and cats there..

Whiskers at the Mall--our off-site adoption center and store--open Saturdays 10-4. Contact Chris at: ellischris@uams. edu . if you are interested in helping June 9

We can always use HELP AT THE SHELTER---walking dogs, taking them out to our dog park, brushing cats, playing with cats, cleaning cages, checking water bowls.... and helping potential adopters choose the perfect pet.

**If you no longer wish to receive these newsletters each week, let me know, and I will remove you from the list Also, they sometimes are marked "spam" because I send so many at once.

Adoptions: Higgins; Pumpkin; Scott; Rosie; Peaches, Sanari and lots of kittens and puppies

And check our website w ww.warmhearts. org . I add new cats and dogs (and sometimes horses) every Sunday night! (This week I'm adding them Tuesday night!)
