Reigning Cats and Dogs was a big success. The numbers aren't in yet, but we had a good crowd. It was a huge effort by so many volunteers...we appreciate you all!

Our 2008 DayPlanners are now available! Check the website for location, These are really great this year, and as always, make wonderful holiday gifts.
br> I'm sure everyone has heard about the break-in at the shelter. So many people have made donations of money, supplies and equipment...the folks in Arkansas have been wonderful...we even got a promise of a replacement van!! We truly appreciate the generosity and caring of the people of Arkansas.

Volunteer Debra Wood is putting together a Day for the Animals:

In response to the news about the break-in at the Humane Society, several small businesses (retailers and restaurants) are getting together to try and help. We're designating Saturday, November 17th as "A Day for the Animals." Those participating are donating a portion of their sales that day to the shelter. So far, we've lined up 13 businesses all across Little Rock and North Little Rock, including River Market ArtSpace, Lilly's Dim Sum Then Some, Cajun's Wharf, Bath Junkie, and the Argenta Bead Company, just to name a few. I will be updating the list on the website as new businesses join in.

The Arkansas Times is donating ad space and will probably do some editorial on it; the ad will list all the participating venues, and the percentage donation can be of the venue's choice. We just need to know by Tuesday, as press releases are going out on Wednesday. We hope many will join us for this very worthy endeavor! Those interested should send an e-mail to debrartgallery@sbcglobal.net or call 324.2787

We will still welcome participants after that time, but need to know by then to be included in the first press release! We are offering visits with adoptables at the various locations, so if you are interested in taking a dog for the afternoon, let me know AND...we would like to have a colorful flier for the participating businesses to have in their windows. Anyone want to design one, and email it to me.?..then I will email it to the businesses to print out and display

November 18---Mission Market at Pulaski Heights Methodist Church. We can take adoptables. Anyone interested? We usually get an adoption or two at this event

December 1--Downtown Holiday Parade It would be great to enter a float...first prize is $1000! v Any ideas? Anyone want to form a group to make it happen?

It's CFC (Combined Federal Campaign) time again! If you work for a federal agency, or know someone who does, please consider making HSPC the charity of choice. Our number is 53272. And if your agency would like us to do a presentation, Christine has already taken Abner the Basset mix to a few places, and getting us lots of donations (we hope!)! She would be happy to make more visits . Last year, we were pledged $22,000, more than any other agency in the area. This year, we really are depending on donation such as this to meet our expenses.

Our Kroger cards made $611 for September. Please remember to use them. You can only purchase them at the shelter (or by mail); You can't buy them at Kroger, and using them does not negate your Kroger Discount card, you can use both. If you don't know how they work, let me know and I will explain this painless way to make money for the shelter.

Volunteers: Think about taking dogs out to our wonderful dog park to play. They love it! And please pick up after your dog..there are poop bags and buckets to put them in...and please remember to put your dog back, or ask for help.

We have a wonderful Humane Ed program. Christine has become a Certified Humane Educator, and does programs at schools, churches, scout groups., schools, libraries. She has age-appropriate materials for all groups, and does a wonderful job teaching about animal care, responsibilty, spay/neuter, etc. She brings puppies with her,(and our Humane Ed mascot, Abner..a real, live Bassett Dashund mix) to make it interesting to everyone! If you would like her to come to your organization, or would like to help her, let me know and I will put you in touch
