Reigning Cats and Dogs!!! November 3, 7-10 DoubleTree hotel If you would like to help, and still haven't signed up, there is still time! Contact Debbie at nicsmom5@aristotle. net. We need folks to help set up during the day; we will need three dog escorts (contact me about that one); and MaryBeth has signed up to do the merchandise table, but we need another. Also cashiers, and table monitors. If you are planning to help, but haven't let us know..please let Debbie know so we will have an idea of where we need help...it is getting close! This is a wonderful, fun event, and a big fund-raiser for HSPC

November 18---Mission Market at Pulaski Heights Methodist Church. We can take adoptables. Anyone interested? We usually get an adoption or two at this event.

December 1--Downtown Holiday Parade It would be great to enter a float...first prize is $1000! Any ideas? Anyone want to form a group to make it happen?

It's CFC (Combined Federal Campaign) time again! If you work for a federal agency, or know someone who does, please consider making HSPC the charity of choice. Our number is 53272. And if your agency would like us to do a presentation, Christine has already taken Abner the Basset mix to a few places, and getting us lots of donations (we hope!)! She would be happy to make more visits. Last year, we were pledged $22,000, more than any other agency in the area. This year, we really are depending on donation such as this to meet our expenses.

Our Kroger cards made $611 for September. Please remember to use them. You can only purchase them at the shelter (or by mail); You can't buy them at Kroger, and using them does not negate your Kroger Discount card, you can use both. If you don't know how they work, let me know and I will explain this painless way to make money for the shelter.

October 22--SuperSuppers in NLR is giving us 10% of their sales. So if you use SuperSuppers, or would like to try it, this would be a good time. To learn more about it, their website is www.supersuppers. com

Puppy Love: Here is the schedule for October

October 27 Parkview 10:30

Meet at the shelter 30 minutes before scheduled time.

Contact Amanda at And Mary and Leigh make regular visits to Women and Children First on first Saturdays, and Dorcas House third Saturdays. Contact Mary at mmstephens@ashland. com if you would like to go on these visits

If you would like to be part of our dog training program..learn to train our shelter dogs to help make them more adoptable... and give them a chance to have fun..contact Phyllis at Phyllis@hotmail. com and she will tell you when the next set of classes will start. This is a wonderful program that has helped get so many of our dogs into good homes. Both the dogs and the trainers learn new skills!

We have a wonderful Humane Ed program. Christine has become a Certified Humane Educator, and does programs at schools, churches, scout groups., schools, libraries. She has age-appropriate materials for all groups, and does a wonderful job teaching about animal care, responsibilty, spay/neuter, etc. She brings puppies with her, to make it interesting to everyone! If you would like her to come to your organization, or would like to help her, let me know and I will put you in touch.

We have a chance to submit our Effective Marketing Campaigns For Hard To Place Dogs and Cats to Maddies Fund before October 31st.

Maddies Fund has set aside $100,000 for Petfinder.com member groups that have created effective marketing campaigns for hard to place dogs and cats. Winning submissions will receive between $1,000 and $50,000 each and will be featured on the Maddieâs Fund website and newsletter. We will also be adding them to the Petfinder Library. Maddies Fund has received several good submissions already. If you have not already, it is time to draft a letter outlining your clever marketing campaign and the outcomes achieved. Provide samples of all collateral materials and give quantifiable results, including percent and total numbers of hard-to-place animals adopted. If any one has any ideas on how we could apply for this, and would be willing to work on it, please let me know asap.

We can always use more people to take dogs to the dog park! We have a dedicated group doing it now, but really need more. And...while we're mentioning dogpark, please remember to pick up after the dogs you take out...there are "poop bags" and buckets, and also, remember to take back the dogs you take out, or ask for help in doing so. These times in the park mean so much to the dogs, and help them stay exercised and healthy.

Lovey the horse finally had her surgery this week, and did very well. She is in a cast, but galloping around. As soon as she has healed, she will be fitted for her prosthetic foot!

Adoptions: Darby; Love; Claudia; Glenda; Chandler; Tina (puppy)

Next volunteer orientation: Monday October 22 at 6PM at the shelter.

And check our website www.warmhearts. org. add new animals every Sunday night

Dogs Need Ride I know I send out a lot of these...I am forwarding the lists that I get everyday, if they go through Arkansas. If you are not interested, just delete. I send them to my whole list, can't sort out ones who aren't interested! And many of our volunteers have "taken a leg" many times. .almost every one that goes through Arkansas has had an HSPC helper! We have helped so many dogs go from terrible situations to really good ones this way.
