We need foster homes for mama cats and kittens. We have several mama cats nursing newborns, and no place to put them. Also, it is pretty stressful, with all the barking and activity. If you could give a little cat family a place for a few weeks, it would be wonderful. Cat families are very easy houseguests…they can stay in a carrier and mama does all the work, you just have to feed her and provide a litter box, and some affectionate attention.

Sunday October 7--Adoption Day/Cook Out, 12-6.

We had a few adoptions, a few lookers, and the dogs had a great time out in the dog yard all day playing. Thanks to the volunteers who helped…Kristy and Ashton, Kyla and Tony, Toni, Brad and Jennifer, Billye, Kristen, Nikki. And big thanks to all the folks who provided food...Brad and Jen, Stephanie, Katie, Virginia, Cindy, Kristy and Ashton, Tony, Nikki…I think there were some others, too…we appreciate it!

Dr Teresa Medlock has joined HSPC as our in-house vet four days a week. She will be doing spays and neuters, and other veterinary work.We are so pleased to have her.

It is CFC time again…Combined Federal Campaign . If you work for a federal agency, please consider making HSPC your charity of choice. Our new number is 53272. And if your agency would like us to do a program, let me know. Christine has already taken Abner (the Beagle/Bassett) to the Corps of Engineers and is going to the Postal Service this week; she would be happy to visit any others that might want her,and might result in contributions to HSPC. Last year we were pledged $22,000., more than any other charity in the local CFC program!!!!

Our Kroger cards made $555 for August! Please remember to use them . You can purchase them at the shelter, . (You can't get them at Kroger). If you don't know how they work, let me know and I'll explain this painless way to make money for the shelter.

We have a wonderful Humane Ed program going, so if you know of anyone who would like Christine to come to your school, library, daycare, church, business…to do a program on animal care, and bring puppies!!!...let me know. Christine is now a Certified Humane Educator, and does a wonderful job

October 22—SuperSuppers in NLR will give HSPC 10% of their sales. So if you use SuperSuppers, or would like to try it,this would be a good time. To learn more about SuperSuppers, check their website www.supersuppers.com

Friday and Saturday…opening of the new JC Penney, and Babies R Us…we can take adoptables. I will have more info later in the week for the folks going.

November 3—Reigning Cats and Dogs at the DoubleTree . From Debbie:

ALL CALL FOR REIGNING EVENT VOLUNTEERS : We will have an organizational/training meeting for all Reigning event volunteers at the Oyster Bar at 6:00 on Thursday, October 18.

We need volunteers: for

SET-UP & TAKE DOWN at the event:

TRANSPORT items to the Doubletree the afternoon and evening before the event, assist with setting up the morning of the event, help take down after the event that night and help load out of the hotel the next day,

TABLE MONITORS/ AUCTION OFFICIALS:

several people to monitor tables, close auctions and distribute items to winning bidders after they check out,

CASHIERS: Several people to collect money & credit card payments at the end of both closings,

REGISTRATION A few people to take/sell tickets, collect bidder data and assign bid numbers. Although set up and take down requires no instruction prior to event, the other duties do.

We are trying a new automated system this year, employing the use of computers throughout the event to insure accuracy & expedite check out. This will mean a few changes in procedures from the past, so the meeting is very important.

Also, the Oyster Bar is a very inexpensive restaurant who donates the use of their private room every year to us. Please plan to patronize them by purchasing food(even if just small appetizers) & beverages during the meeting.

If you are planning to help at the event, please let me know, so we can have a feel for how many we will have, and how many more we might need!!

Saturday October 20 from 11-2 there will be a program for people with disabilities in Murray Park . They have asked us to bring some dogs for the attendees to play with . If some volunteers would be willing to take some, that would be very nice. The dogs love an outing, too! Barbara has volunteered to take a dog , and a few others

Also October 20th--need volunteers to take adoptables to Oktoberfest at Lutheran High. Let me know if you are interested...

Whiskers at the Mall,is our off-site adoption center and store has closed. If anyone knows of a suitable place for our off-site adoptions, let me know. It has to be free, or almost free, and easily accessible from the shelter. A word of thanks to Chris, and the Whiskers volunteers, for keeping it going so long.
