We desperately need bottle-feeders! We have twelve orphan puppies. I saw them Sunday and they
seemed fat and healthy, and eager to be fed. If you can help, please call the shelter, or just
come down after 11.(And we're open until 8 Monday) We will provide formula, etc, instruction,
and whatever you need to give these pups a chance. We also need a foster home for a sweet big
(about 45 pounds) brown dog about to have puppies ( in about a week or so). She is very friendly.
He owner is demented, and was about to shoot her. The shelter is a stressful place for a new mom
and pups...all the barking, etc.Plus, we really don't have a place for her
A great crew showed up at the house Saturday, and we got a lot done. John and Mike ripped up and
hauled out all the carpet, and Laurel,Nick,Sheena, Toby, Kristi, Joanna, Julie R, Wrenne, and Lyn
and her mom Debbie, really worked hard and did a great job packing up and hauling out the contents
of the house, cleaning, raking, etc.I'm sure everyone is feeling it today! Next step will be
further cleaning, new carpet, painting, appliances...and it'll be ready for sale.
Sunday October 7--Adoption Day/Cook Out, 12-6.
We're going to try to promote adoptions, and Brad and Jennifer have generously offered to cook
again. We might need another grill(er), and donations of frozen burgers, etc will be welcome.
Let me know if you can help..we'll need folks to help with adoptions, etc SO: I'm looking for
another person to bring a grill, and anyone who wants to help with food, let me know. Sam's Club
has frozen burgers, 40 to a pack for around $15, and we could use some hot dogs, buns, and drinks.
We have fixin's (mustard, etc) and paper plates. If you can bring something let me know, so we
can make sure we have enough, but not too much!!
Our Kroger cards made $555 for August! Please remember to use them . You can purchase them at
the shelter, or at our Mall store. (You can't get them at Kroger). If you don't know how they work,
let me know and I'll explain this painless way to make money for the shelter.
We have a wonderful Humane Ed program going, so if you know of anyone who would like Christine to
come to your school, library, daycare, church, business…to do a program on animal care, and bring
puppies!!!...let me know. Christine is now a Certified Humane Educator, and does a wonderful job
November 3—Reigning Cats and Dogs at the DoubleTree . From Debbie:
ALL CALL FOR REIGNING EVENT VOLUNTEERS : We will have an organizational/training meeting for all
Reigning event volunteers at the Oyster Bar at 6:00 on Thursday, October 18.
We need volunteers: for
SET-UP & TAKE DOWN at the event:
TRANSPORT items to the Doubletree the afternoon and evening before the event, assist with setting up the morning of the event, help take down after the event that night and help load out of the hotel the next day,
TABLE MONITORS/ AUCTION OFFICIALS:
several people to monitor tables, close auctions and distribute items to winning bidders after
they check out,
CASHIERS: Several people to collect money & credit card payments at the end of both closings,
REGISTRATION A few people to take/sell tickets, collect bidder data and assign bid numbers. Although set up and take down requires
no instruction prior to event, the other duties do.
We are trying a new automated system this year, employing the use of computers throughout the event
to insure accuracy & expedite check out. This will mean a few changes in procedures from the past, so the meeting is very important.
Also, the Oyster Bar is a very inexpensive restaurant who donates the use of their private room
every year to us. Please plan to patronize them by purchasing food(even if just small appetizers)
& beverages during the meeting.
.Saturday October 20 from 11-2 there will be a program for people with disabilities in Murray Park
. They have asked us to bring some dogs for the attendees to play with . If some volunteers would
be willing to take some, that would be very nice. The dogs love an outing, too! Barbara has
volunteered to take a dog , and a few others
Also October 20th--need volunteers to take adoptables to Oktoberfest at Lutheran High. Let me know
if you are interested...
Whiskers at the Mall,is our off-site adoption center and store will be closing in two weeks.
We have received our notice that the mall is being torn down. If anyone knows of a suitable place
for our off-site adoptions, let me know. It has to be free, or almost free, and easily accessible
from the shelter.

We can use leashes, and small, uncovered kitty litter pans.Nurses...the little horseshoe shaped pans
that patients are given, but don't always use...we can really use them. They make good liter boxes
for tiny cats in small cages
