This weekend HSPC had to take in 19 cats and kittens from a family who had to give up their home. There is no room for them at HS, so we are again looking for foster homes. Among the collection are:
A pretty tabby Mom with seven very new babies. Some of these are beautiful shades of cream, taupe, etc.
She is taking good care of them, they just need a place to stay.
A white Mom with spots of cream and gray with 4 kittens. The kittens are about 5-1/2 weeks old, and I think they were white with patches of tabby and other colors. They eat from a dish and are starting to play with each other.
HSPC will provide a carrier for them to stay in, meds, advice, etc, and will take them back when they are ready to be permanently adopted. They should be relatively undemanding houseguests.
There are several adult cats. They are all friendly; one black male is extremely affectionate.
If you, or someone you know, could offer temporary living space to these little families, please let me know by calling 224-7859, or e-mail

Foster Homes for Puppies in Abuse Case
There are five adorable puppies that HSPC has been holding. They were rescued in an awful abuse case several weeks ago. It was on TV--somewhere in North Little Rock these newborn pups and their parents were being kept in abysmal conditions. There were some people-related abuse issues involved, also.
Because a court case is pending, we cannot show these dogs, or put them up for adoption yet. So they have been in the shelter apartment, and really need a nicer place to stay, with more human contact, until the case is resolved. Should it go in HSPC's favor, which is most likely, the dogs will be available for adoption.
The puppies are about three to four- months old now, and over all their illnesses and ailments. They are terrier mixes, cute as can be, and won't become very large dogs. Their parents, who are also here, (but can't be neutered yet), are each about 35 pounds, and are very sweet, friendly, good-looking dogs, in spite of their former neglect.
If you would like to foster any of these puppies, possibly with the intention of adoption when the case is resolved, (the hearing is in October), I can e-mail you photos--I will be at HS tonight with my digital camera--or a visit with them could easily be arranged.
Thanks for considering it. I can be reached by e-mail, or at home, 224-7859. (Don't use my cell-phone#, my phone is missing ).

Temporary Home for Mama Dog and 7 Pups
Animal Control has called us about a mama dog and seven one-week old puppies.
Mama is a Shepherd mix, about 35 pounds, assorted puppies. She is caring for the pups, just needs a place to stay. This is Pulaski County Animal Control, who do not have a facility for holding animals.
If they are not placed by tonight, they will go to LR Animal Control, and you know what will happen to them there! There is no room for them at HS, not even for overnight. Plus there are some sick puppies at HS, and we wouldn't want to expose these little guys.
If you, or anyone you know, could offer this little family a safe place to stay (even a protected outdoor place), for a few weeks, that would be wonderful. HS will take them in when they are adoptable/there is room, and will provide shots, meds, advice, etc. while you keep them.
Please let me know ASAP if you can help. Call me at 224-7859, cell phone 580-2966, or email

Kitten Emergency
Just when I thought kitten season was tapering off, I got a call today from HSPC Clinic Supervisor that we now need foster homes for:
A litter of 3 kittens, 3-4 weeks old, will need to be bottle fed a little longer, then can be trained to kitten mush.
Five kitties whose mom was run over, 3-4 weeks old, need to be bottle fed a little longer, then switch to kitten mush in a dish.
HSPC will provide formula, bottles, carrier, etc, and will take them back when they are old enough to be adopted.
Four kittens about six weeks old, eating kitten food, have shots and Frontline, but no room at the shelter. Need a place to stay until there is available cage space.
All are very cute.
(Of course).
If you, or someone you know can help these little guys for a few weeks, it will be much appreciated.

HSPC Escort for Lucy Buttercup - TV Appearance
Thanks to everyone who responded to the plight of the orphan puppies. They are all in snug homes now. And thanks to everyone who forwarded my letter--I heard from lots of folks I didn't even know. There are so many Warm Hearts out there--they clearly outnumber the jerks like the ones who killed the puppies' mother.
Today's request is a little different---we need one person to escort a beautiful dog to Channel 7 for her early-morning appearance Friday. She needs to be there at 5:45 AM--so she would need to go home with her escort the night before.
She is not crazy about other dogs. She is a beautiful white Husky with blue eyes. Her name is Lucy Buttercup. She will be on Channel 7 to promote Delta Dog Daze--she was chosen for her beautiful coat.
If you can spare a little time early Friday, let me know. You do not have to appear on TV with her-just get her there and back!

Emergency Foster Care needed-9 day old Puppies
I just got a call from the shelter, and we just got six 9-day-old puppies whose mother had been shot (7 times!!) by the monsters whose yard she chose to give birth.
One of our staff has agreed to take two, so we need emergency foster homes for four. They need to be bottle fed, but are a decent size, not especially fragile, and of course, adorable.
If you, or any one you know, could help out with these babies, even for a short time, it would be wonderful. HSPC will provide formula, bottles, meds and advice. And of course, will take them back when they are adoptable.
If you can help, or know anybody who can help, please get in touch with me at 224-7859 or email
