Here is a (partial) list of HSPC dogs and puppies that need temporary (or permanent) homes:
1.
Nannie. An elderly white poodle, very tiny, very sweet, who hates to be in a cage. She's rather be running around, or be held. She can go to a permanent home.
2. Six bird dog puppies; all different, all adorable. Need places to stay until they are adoptable-- approximately 2 weeks.
3. Cute brindle momma and nine nursing pups. We really have no space for his family; she is taking good care of the puppies; needs a place to stay until they are weaned. (Once they are weaned, we can divide up the litter until they are inoculated and ready to adopt. Nine weaned pups can be a big job for one home!)
4. An extremely personable retriever-mix mom and pups. Pups are 4-5 weeks old, starting to eat from a dish, could be taken without mom.
5. And
Jenny, the diabetic dog living at the vet's -- she needs to get out of there.
I'm going to photograph all these folks and put their pictures on the website Sunday night, but they are available now. As always with fosters, we will provide meds, supplies, advice, etc. and take them back when they are ready for adoption. HSPC is at full capacity, but how can we say no to these animals in need?
Cat people: Kitten season will be here soon-- we aren't ignoring cats--we'll be asking for your help soon, too!!
If you, or anyone you know, can help with these dogs, call Kay or Vicki at the shelter--227-6166; and let me know, also (e-mail
info@warmhearts.org).
Thank you for considering it..

HSPC has a diabetic dog,
Jenny, that needs a foster (or permanent) home.
This special-needs dog has been staying at the vet's until her insulin was stabilized, and to avoid the added stress of shelter life.
Her bills are adding up, and she would like to live in a real home.
I plan to photograph her this weekend, and put her on our website for adoption, but would really love to get her out of the vet's office and into a home until she is adopted.
She weighs 35 pounds , (up from the 18 when we found her), so she is a medium-size dog. She has been described as a lab mix, active and friendly and very sweet.
HSPC will provide insulin and supplies while she is being fostered. It is not at all hard to give an animal insulin shots (I gave them to my cat for years). We will show you how, and have plenty of back-up available for any questions or needed help that might come up. But generally, they don't even feel it, and with a tiny distraction, don't even notice.
However, she must get her shot twice a day, at approximately the same time.
If this is something you could help with, please let me know, and I will get more info, and arrange for you to meet her.
Thanks for considering it.

I just got a call from the shelter with the following emergency needs:
Foster Homes:
1. "Bullet" a 9 month -old shepherd mix who was shot in the neck. Brought to us by a nearby sheriffs office. Spent some time at the Emergency Veterinary Clinic, needs a quiet place to recover.
2. "Carlotta", a female dog hit by a car. She wasn't taken to the vet, and our Abuse Investigator found her crying in the barn when she went to investigate a horse abuse case. Her vet bill was $560; she is a sweet dog, surprisingly is heart worm negative, and needs some cage rest and some help with her vet bill. The vets named her Charlotte, after Charlotte's Web, but HS already has a Charlotte in residence.
3. " Louise" a precious tiny daschund mix puppy-- golden yellow, very frail. Needs a loving (Foster or permanent) home
without small or active children, to gain her strength.
4. Four (or five) tiny Chocolate Lab/Chesapeake Retriever pups, need foster home. Some bottle feeding may be involved. Adorable puppies--brown and curly.
As always, we will take them back when they are adoptable, and provide meds, supplies, etc while they are in your care.
5. Also need dog houses--old, used, etc. we are giving them to people who's dogs have no shelter, including another small rescue operation who has fallen on even harder times than others. We are also taking them donated food, etc.
If you can help with any of these, please call Kay at the Shelter--227-6166, and also let me know.
Thanks for considering it.
***Update--remember the black dog who wouldn't leave his injured friend, and was keeping her warm?---we have just heard from his new family--and he has found the home of every animal's dreams! I will try to post some photos on the web next week.

We need a temporary home for a Lab mix mom and five puppies. The pups are about 3-4 weeks old. They have been in foster care with one of our volunteers, but she has to go to National Guard for two weeks. We don't want them picking up any of the "shelter-borne" ailments that young pups are subject to in a crowded environment. (Not that we have any room for them).
If you, or someone you know, can offer this little family a warm place to stay for a few weeks, please let me know.
As always, HSPC will provide meds, food, advice, etc...and will take them back as soon as they are adoptable.
It looks like we will have lots of Christmas puppies (and kitties) this year.

Foster homes are needed for six 4-week old puppies that were abandoned in Maumelle. They are very cute little terrier mixes that will be small dogs. They are eating puppy chow, and do not have to go as a group, (although they do better if there are at least two together). They are healthy, and just need a place to stay for about three weeks.
There is no room at the shelter for tiny guys,, and their chances of staying healthy are much better in an environment with fewer animals, (and more personal attention) than HSPC can offer.
If you would like to have little houseguests for a few weeks, please let me know. HSPC will provide meds, chow, and advice, and will take them back when they are of an adoptable age.

There is a mamma lab with five one- week-old puppies running out of time at Animal Control. If anyone can offer them a place to stay, HSPC will take them when they are adoptable. They will be HSPC fosters, and therefore get shots, meds, advice, etc while they are with you. The pups should be just right to be Holiday puppies.
If you, or someone you know, can give this little family a place to stay for a while, please let me know asap.

HSPC has two cat situations that need that need temporary help.
1. Four orphan kittens found in a trash dumpster, 3 days old---need bottle feeding.
2. Pretty white shelter kitty about to give birth--needs nice place to stay while she has her babies and raises them.
A mama cat and kittens are a fairly low-maintenance foster---they just need a quiet spot and food and water--mama does the rest.
We're hoping that once she has her kittens, she will also care for the orphans.
As always, HSPC will provide formula, meds, bottles, etc., and will take the animals back when they are ready for adoption.
If you can help with these cat emergencies, even for a short time, please call the shelter--227-6166, and ask for Kay or Vicki. And let me know, too!
Thanks for considering it.

Need homes for two young dogs--approximately 6 months old, 30 lbs; appear to be Pit Bull mixes. Two little girls, one tan, one white with tan. Very friendly, playful, sweet. Were found by one of our volunteers, who is presently paying to board them.
They will have all shots including rabies, and will be HSPC dogs--(we will take them when there is room, and will spay them).
If you, or someone you know, can offer a temporary (or permanent) home for these girls (they can be separated), please let me know, and I will put you in touch with them.
Also a reminder--there will be a Puppy Love Training session at the shelter Thursday at 6:30PM.

This is one of my more unusual requests:
We need the use of a truck that can tow a horse trailer, to drive to Knoxville KY and back.
We can provide the driver, gas, etc.
This is to pick up the trailer that took the three tigers and two lions to their new home last week. The owner of the trailer needs it back, and has no way of getting there to get it.( It's a long story).
If you, or anyone you know, can make the very generous donation of the truck for this trip, we will be most appreciative.

Nancy Harm will hold a training session for people interested in Puppy Love, on Thursday October 10, at 6:30PM at the shelter.
Puppy Love is our program of taking puppies to visit folks in Nursing Homes, Women's Shelters, etc., usually on Saturday mornings.
I know a lot of volunteers have been waiting for the opportunity to become part of this wonderful program.
Please let me know if you plan to attend, or if you have any questions.

Can anybody take in two Daschunds for 45-60 days? Their owner is going in to the hospital and has no one to care for them. One is 1yr old, (unneutered), and one is 13 yrs old--he is neutered. Owner will want them back.
If you can help, let me know by calling 224-7859, or e-mail

This weekend HSPC had to take in 19 cats and kittens from a family who had to give up their home. There is no room for them at HS, so we are again looking for foster homes. Among the collection are:
A pretty tabby Mom with seven very new babies. Some of these are beautiful shades of cream, taupe, etc.
She is taking good care of them, they just need a place to stay.
A white Mom with spots of cream and gray with 4 kittens. The kittens are about 5-1/2 weeks old, and I think they were white with patches of tabby and other colors. They eat from a dish and are starting to play with each other.
HSPC will provide a carrier for them to stay in, meds, advice, etc, and will take them back when they are ready to be permanently adopted. They should be relatively undemanding houseguests.
There are several adult cats. They are all friendly; one black male is extremely affectionate.
If you, or someone you know, could offer temporary living space to these little families, please let me know by calling 224-7859, or e-mail
info@warmhearts.org.
