HSPC VOLUNTEER EVENTS 2/9/04
Saturday 2/9 Whiskers at the Mallour off-site adoption center and store at University Mall. Contact Tony at TonyJeep75 @msn.com if you want to help. We always need help, especially people to transport the animals. Please let Tony know if you are planning on helping--ALSOwe need people to come to the shelter Friday and help get the animals readybathed, manicured, etc.
We are going ahead with the
2005 day planner; we need people to get sponsorships, sell pages, etc. Pages are photographs of peoples animals. If this is something you are interested in, let me know, and I will get information to you. Suzanne Bradshaw, a local horsewoman, started this for us as a means to help offset the costs of horse rescues, and to get the horse community aware of the work we do for all animals. This is not just a horse-focused thing, however, but does expand our usual cat/dog efforts somewhat. It will be a lot of work getting it done, but it should be profitable, and increase in profitability and (ease of production) in years to come. So far, we have a few interested volunteers, but could use more.
Every day: Help is needed at the shelter--walk dogs, clean, bathe, play with animals.I know a lot of volunteers have been spending time with the animals at the shelter lately, and the animals really appreciate it. ***This is really important to keep the animals from getting bored and cage crazy. Any time you can spend with them just makes them so much more adoptable. Some people have chosen a few to work with each time they come, and that means so much to them. Remember, we are open 7 days a week, and Monday and Friday evenings.
**
Little Rock Animal Control is looking for a community outreach officer, 20-30 hours a week; if you are interested, and have not seen the ad, let me know and I will forward the link. This could be an opportunity for someone from the animal welfare community to help improve conditions there.
February 24(Tuesday evening 6-9) - MardiPawsa dance and silent auction at Bobbisox to benefit HSPC!!in the Airport Holiday Inn. We need volunteers to help with the auction, and to escort puppies. (You will need to keep the puppy overnight afterwards). And we need folks to attend and have fun. There are flyers at the shelter, if you can put some up at your office, etc. There will be appetizers, and of course drinks for sale at the bar.
Sunday May or June ?? an evening of classical Indian dance, foods, etc, to benefit HSPC and also a shelter in India. Philander Smith College Auditorium. More details later. The date is being changed, but the event is still planned. We will need some volunteers to escort adoptables, and possibly help with food clean-up.
A few folks came and worked on the
Science Diet cards, and we still have quite a few to do, as well as some filing.
Dog Playground project: I am making scaled drawings to reflect (somewhat) the two concepts that have been suggested. As soon as they are ready, we will meet again to discuss the advantages, problems of each. We also need to consider drainage.
Adoptions: Tish; Carissa; Peanut and Curley; Flicker
And check our website here at www.warmhearts.org. I update the animals every Sunday night.
For the Warm Hearts and Cold Noses...
