HSPC EVENTS 5/03/04

Puppy saved from Pipe! -Thanks to everyone who has helped little Odie and his medical bills. As usual, our wonderful volunteer group came through in a big way. He is recuperating in a foster home, and he is doing very well. I met him Saturday, and he is adorable; a really sweet little guy.

Kroger Cards Kroger Cards - Our big news this week is that we have Kroger Cards. This is a Gift Card program with Kroger that gives HSPC 5% of all of your purchases. It works like a debit card - you put money on it, then you debit it when you go through the checkout line. There is a $5 fee to get the card, BUT it is credited right back to you. You have to get the card at the shelter, the Mall store, or from me. You can take several, and sell them to your friends and co-workers. We have sold 50 since Thursday. It's a great way to make money for HSPC, and it costs nothing, and is very easy. If you need more info on how it works, or would like a flier to download and post on a bulletin board, let me know.

Saturday, May 8 - Whiskers at the Mall - our offsite adoption center and storewe need help 10-4, and transporting animals. If you can help, contact Chris Ellis at dcellis@uams.edu. Also, we need help Friday night bathing animals and getting them ready. The staff really appreciates the help Friday night.

Our first dog wash Saturday was a bit of a rain-out. We were there anyway, and washed about 15 brave dogs who came out in the rain. Thanks to volunteers Ann Linton, Deeana Tripp, Gene Mullins, Melissa Gillespie, Michael and Micah Miller, and Amie and Steve. We had a full crew, and a lot of fun, but not much business. Our next one, on the 15th at Kroger will be a huge success!!

Saturday May 8 - The third annual Delta Dog Dayz event, to be held at the Delta Trust & Bank Hillcrest branch at 2924 Kavanaugh promises to be more fun than ever! For the first time, the event is going to include a 1-mile Mutt Strutt through the streets of Hillcrest. Bring your pet and join the parade of animals walking for a good cause, the Humane Society of Pulaski County.

Friday, May 14 - 11:00AM to 1PM, Pulaski County Day at Rivermarket. Take adoptables and merchandise. Need volunteers.

Saturday May 15 - Easter Carnival at Saddle Creek Church 10Am to 1. This event was postponed from 4/10 because of the weather. Its rescheduled for May 15. We will need a few people to take adoptables.

Saturday May 15 - Dog Wash at Kroger in the Heights 9-2

Reigning Cats and Dogs has been scheduled for October 30. This is our gala event at the Doubletree. We have food, live music, drinks, live and silent auctions, celebrity items, lots of fun.

We have organized the following committees, and will need help on all of them. Some won't need much participation before the event, but some will. The committees are: Invitations and Posters; Silent and Live Auction; Corporate sponsorships; Sales and Publicity; later, we will need people for Set up and Break Down; Table Monitors; Dog Escorts; Cashiers; Check Out. Mostly, we need people to solicit donations for auction items. If you are interested in helping with any of these, let me know, and I will get you more information.

All day, every day - help is needed walking, bathing, playing with the dogs and cats of HSPC. The more time you spend with them, the more adoptable they become.

Adoptions: Midge; Lady Denise, Clancy, Glynnis; lots of puppies; lots of cats and kittens

New Volunteers: Natalie Reid; Leigh Deininger

Check here on our website: www.warmhearts.org; I update the adoptables every Sunday night. And check in on the KTHV webcam. You might catch a kitty or puppy doing something cute!

Due to the many computer viruses out there, you may be getting e-mails with my name on them. My subject lines almost always start with HSPC; if you get something that looks suspicious, either contact me, or delete it.
