HSPC EVENTS - April 26, 2004
Puppy saved from Pipe! - I have pictures of the puppy Kay helped rescue from the 52' deep pipe in Scott. Odie is recovering nicely at the vet, and will be going to his foster home soon, for long-term recuperation. His vet bills are enormous, and any help would be appreciated. He had three bone breaks, and various other injuries. If you would like to see this cute little guy, let me know and I will forward his photo. If you would like to make a donation for him, send it to HSPC, and mark it ODIE
Foster Home - We are trying to help find a foster home for a 17 pound little dog whose owner thought it would be fun to chain him to a moped and drag him along the street. He has been taken from his owner, and needs a place to stay pending a court hearing. Hopefully after that, he will need a permanent home.
He is as cute as they comelooks like a cross between a Westie and a German Shepherd---all 17 pounds of him! If you would like to see his picture, and/or read the story, just let me know and I will forward it. And if you would like to have him as a house guest for a few weeks, let me know and I will put you in touch. This is not an HSPC situation, but I offered to help, because our group always comes through!!
Saturday, 4/24/04 - Whiskers at the Mall--our offsite adoption center and storewe need help 10-4, and transporting animals. If you can help, contact Chris Ellis at dcellis@uams.edu. Also, we need help Friday night bathing animals and getting them ready. The staff really appreciates the help Friday night.

Community section. Or, when you go to the HSPC web site, click on
*new-2005 dayplanner* for pictures, prices, and sponsorship forms. (We will have a picture of our own cover art available soon) And sponsors also get an invitation to the kick-off party October 7, which is going to be a great event itself.
Our first 2004 Dog Wash is Saturday!!!May 1. HELP HELP HELP!! Trinity UMC. Need help! Billye and Stoney will be there if they get back from their trip in time. We need a lot more people for this. We will start setting up at 8:15, and start washing dogs at 9. Come prepared to get wet--and let me know if you are coming. Even if you aren't up for washing dogs, we need a cashier, merchandise person, and general helpers.
Saturday May 8 - The third annual Delta Dog Dayz event, to be held at the Delta Trust & Bank Hillcrest branch at 2924 Kavanaugh promises to be more fun than ever! For the first time, the event is going to include a 1-mile Mutt Strutt through the streets of Hillcrest. Bring your pet and join the parade of animals walking for a good cause, the Humane Society of Pulaski County.
After the Mutt Strutt, dogs and their owners can compete in a Dog Show with several categories including Best Trick, Cutest Best Dressed, Looks Most Like Owner, Best Coat, Smallest, Largest, and Mr./Miss Congeniality. There will also be a special Judges Award for the best behaved dog! The contest will be judged by a panel of celebrity judges. We will need a few volunteers to sell merchandise, show off adoptables, and answer questions. This event has been great fun, and very profitable for us. Want to help??

October 30. This is our gala event at the Doubletree. We have food, live music, drinks, live and silent auctions, celebrity items, lots of fun.
We have organized the following committees, and will need help on all of them. Some won't need much participation before the event, but some will. The committees are: Invitations and Posters; Silent and Live Auction; Corporate sponsorships; Sales and Publicity; later, we will need people for Set up and Break Down; Table Monitors; Dog Escorts; Cashiers; Check Out. Mostly, we need people to solicit donations for auction items. If you are interested in helping with any of these, let me know, and I will get you more information.
All day, every day - help is needed walking, bathing, playing with the dogs and cats of HSPC. The more time you spend with them, the more adoptable they become.
Adoptions: Denver (long-time resident and great guy); Lucy M(went home with Denver!); Turtle; lots of puppies; lots of cats and kittens
I want to remind everyone that if they ever have problems or questions about helping at the shelter, please let me know. And please sign in the Volunteers book when you come. (NOT the Community Service Book)
Check here on our web site - www.warmhearts.org - I update the adoptables every Sunday night. And check in on the KTHV webcam. You might catch a kitty or puppy doing something cute!
Due to the many computer viruses out there, you may be getting e-mails with my name on them. My subject lines almost always start with HSPC; if you get something that looks suspicious, either contact me, or delete it.
And thanks to the folks who went to Zoo day, in the rainAnn, Robert, Christy, Gene, Shannon and Sara.
For the Warm Hearts and Cold Noses...
