HSPC EVENTS - April 12, 2004
Thanks to all who brought in bedding, and who put out the word. We have received lots of nice items, can still use lots more. Old blankets, quilts, towels, bath rugs, sheetswe can use them all. And we also need meat baby food. We have so many babies right now.
Saturday 4/17/04 Whiskers at the Mall - our offsite adoption center and storewe need help 10-4, and transporting animals. If you can help, contact Chris Ellis at dcellis@uams.edu. Also, we need help Friday night bathing animals and getting them ready. The staff really appreciates the help Friday night.
Day Planner - Think about any person or business you know that might want to sponsor a page in our 2005 Dayplanner. There is a picture of this years Tulsa planner on this website,
on the Day Planner page. Click on *new-2005 dayplanner* for pictures, prices, and sponsorship forms. (We will have a picture of our own cover art available soon) And sponsors also get an invitation to the "kick-off party" October 7, which is going to be a great event itself.
Saturday, April 17 is United Way Day of Caring. Volunteers from all over will be coming to help spruce up our shelter. We need to borrow some garden tools for them to use. If you have some you could let us use, be sure to put some clear identification on them, and to take them back as soon as possible. (You know how things can get lost at HS).And if you would like to help supervise, that would be welcome, also.
Sunday April 18 we need a volunteer to attend a horse show, and try to sign up sponsors for our day planner. This is, I believe, a dressage event, at Crestfield, which is near I-430. If you would like to go, I can get you more information, and materials. Let me know soon and Ill have the event coordinator (this is not an HSPC event, but we are helping) contact you. Any horse lovers out there??
Sat and Sun April 23 and 24 - Earth Day at the Zoo. We set up an information booth and take adoptables. So far, Christi Sanders, Shannon Steele and Sara Edwards have signed on.
We have firmed up our 2004 Dog Wash Schedule. The calendar is on on the website. Our first Dog Wash is May 1, at Trinity United Methodist Church. We will need lots of help.
Saturday May 8 The third annual
Delta Dog Dayz event, to be held at the Delta Trust & Bank Hillcrest branch at 2924 Kavanaugh promises to be more fun than ever !
For the first time, the event is going to include a 1-mile "Mutt Strutt" through the streets of Hillcrest. Bring your pet and join the parade of animals walking for a good cause, the Humane Society of Pulaski County.
After the "Mutt Strutt," dogs and their owners can compete in a Dog Show with several categories including "Best Trick," "Best Dressed," "Looks Most Like Owner," "Best Coat," "Smallest," "Largest," and "Mr./Miss Congeniality." There will also be a special Judges Award for the best behaved dog! The contest will be judged by a panel of celebrity judges.
We will need a few volunteers to sell merchandise, show off adoptables, and answer questions. This event has been great fun, and very profitable for us.
Friday, May 14 - 11:00Am to 1PM, Pulaski County Day at Rivermarket. Take adoptables and merchandise. Need volunteers.
Easter Carnival at Saddle Creek Church 10Am to 1.
This event was postponed from 4/10 because of the weather. It is now scheduled for May 15.
All day, every day - help is needed walking, bathing, playing with the dogs and cats of HSPC. The more time you spend with them, the more adoptable they become.
Adoptions: Connie; Sandy E; lots of puppies; lots of cats and kittens
I want to remind everyone that if they ever have problems or questions about helping at the shelter, please let me know. And please sign in the Volunteers book when you come. (NOT the Community Service Book)
Remember to check this web site:
www.warmhearts.org; And check in on
the KTHV web cam. You might catch a kitty or puppy doing something cute!
Due to the many computer viruses out there, you may be getting e-mails with my name (Nancy Thaden) on them. My subject lines almost always start with HSPC; if you get something that looks suspicious, either contact me, or delete it. Don't open any attachments.
For the Warm Hearts and Cold Noses...
