NEWS AND EVENTS

HSPC Week 1/03/05

EMERGENCY: We have a litter of gorgeous Husky mix puppies that need a short-term foster home. Another litter of puppies that came in to the shelter are very sick, and we want to get these healthy pups out of there! There were nine in the litter, and two have already gone to a foster home. They have had shots, been wormed, and will be ready to adopt in twelve days. Some look like Huskies, some like Malamutes, and some are pale blonde with bright blue eyes! Of course we will provide supplies (crate, food, vet care if needed). You dont have to take them allbut it is easier with more than one. If you can help, Call Kay at the shelter, 227-6166 and let me know, too.

Another Foster Home Needed - we had a mama with 5 newborns needing fostering about 10 days ago. They were taken in by a volunteer, and are doing fine, but Mama dog is a little aggressive towards a rather timid permanent resident dog. If someone could take this little family for a few weeks, that would be great. They are all healthy; Mama is taking good care of them, and is a very sweet dog, except for occasional issues with resident dog. If you could help with this, let me know, and I will put you in touch with the foster mom.

Drivers - We could use a few volunteers to drive animals to the vets for their spays and neuters. This would be early in the morning one or two mornings a week. And also folks to pick them up after 5 and return them to the shelter. If we had a few people, we could set up a schedule so you would only have to do it once or twice a month. This would be a big help at the shelter. If you could help with this, call Kay at the shelter227-6166, and she can tell you which days are scheduled at what locations.

Our Dayplanners are just about sold out! (There are a few left at Whiskers, and one or two at Twin City Bank. This was a wonderful fundraiser for us, and we plan to do it again for next year. It takes a lot of work to produce, so we will be organizing committees soon. Think about helping this year, and start getting great pictures of your animals! Ill let you know when we have the first meeting.

Saturday, January 8, Whiskers at the Mall If youd like to help at the store, contact Chris at: Ellischris@uams.edu

Puppy Love Patty is moving to Sweden in June, and we need someone to take over coordinating Puppy Love. This involves scheduling visits and volunteers at local nursing homes and womens shelter. Patty will be available to give you all the information you need. There is an email list of volunteers, and new ones will contact you as well. Often church, school, and service groups like to make visits. Puppy Love, as you may know, involves taking HSPC pups, and occasionally dogs and kittens, to visit folks in these facilities. It means a lot to those people. If you are interested, contact Patty at: pjorwall@episcopalcollegiate.org and let me know, too.

Collection Boxes: We need help with the collection boxes. We need people to make occasional pick-ups at the boxes, and turn the money into HSPC. If there are a few boxes in your neighborhood that you could service, please let me know, and contact Ann at Celticcanine@comcast.net (I had the wrong email address previously sorry!)

ANDin order to help us make a complete list of all the collection boxes, if you see one in a store, please let me know. We are trying to make a complete list of all locations, as we have lost track of some of them over the years! (Some folks have been reporting to me, and the list is started!) A meeting is tentatively set for January 10 at the shelter, 6:30 PM. If you are interested in attending let me know, and I will confirm the date.

Kroger Card We have a new shipment of Kroger Cards. Some are at the shelter, and some at the store. Please remember to use your Kroger Gift Cards when doing your grocery shopping. (You can use them in the pharmacy, too). It is a good way to help HSPC with no extra cost to you!

If you havent heard about Kroger Gift Cards, let me know, and I will explain it. It is also on our website.

All day, every day---help is needed walking, bathing, playing with the dogs and cats of HSPC. The more time you spend with them, the more adoptable they become. You dont need to schedule a timeif you have some time available, just come on down. Were open 11-6 every day, and until 8PM Mondays and Fridays. Some new volunteers have been spending a lot of time with them, and they really appreciate it!

Adoptions: Muriel; Darwin; Tyne; Sassy Girl; Fluffy; Mel; Rosa.

Next volunteer orientation: January 3, 6:30 PM at the shelter.

A good way to help animals: This is pretty simple. Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "feed an animal in need" for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising. Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know - www.theanimalrescuesite.com

And remember to check here on our website - www.warmhearts.org - I add new dogs and cats every Sunday night.
