NEWS AND EVENTS
HSPC Week 9/27/04
Our Dog Wash Total for the year was $9999! Thats a lot of wet doggies! And a big help to HSPC. Thanks to everyone who helped.
Our Humane Ed program is really taking off! Ann has organized Paws and Claws clubs at several schools, and has even gotten a corporate sponsor to donate copy services and materials. She has been working alone getting the schools involved, but could really use some help now, taking animals to school activities, etc. So far she is working with NLR East High; NLR West; and Baker and Jefferson Middle Schools.
The clubs will help to spread animal care awareness, and especially spay/neuter... There are other schools who are interested, and she is meeting with them soon. If you would like to find out more about this, and/or would like to help her from time to time, let me know, and I will have her contact you. HSPC has been trying to get this going for a long time, and we are all really excited that it is happening.
Saturday September 25Garage Sale2712 Kavanaugh The Garage sale made almost $1100! It was enormous amount of work for Ann and Robert, and we all thank them so much; and also the folks who helpedJustin and Jessica, Mary, Gene, Tanya, Louise, Melissa, Linda, Nancy, Martha, Joanna, Shari, Maggie, Brenda, and others.
Saturday, October 2- Whiskers at the Mall.If you can help, contact Chris at
ellischris@uams.edu
Saturday October 2---Kids Fair at the Expo Center. Need volunteers to take animals. This is a big eventexpecting 10,000 people. We will have a nice booth, and need help to decorate, hand out goodies, and show off our animals. The event is 10-7, so we could use a few shifts. Judy will be there, as will Shannon Steele and Sara Edwards. Mary and Robin will be there in the afternoon, and Brenda will be there after 4. Could still use one or two more, we expect to be very busy!
Saturday October 2, Sunday Oct 3Need people to put out 1600 door hangers out advertising the State Fair. If we can do this, they will donate $1000 to HSPC!!. Please let me know. We dont want to miss out on this! They need to be distributed in five nice neighborhoods near the shelterSandpiper, Brodie Creek, etc. Jan and Toby are helping, as well as some Pulaski Academy students. The more help we have, the faster it will go. Do you know a scout troop or service club that might want to help? This could count as service hours for their community service requirements.
Saturday October 16Reigning Cats and Dogs. Posters and tickets are at the shelter. Can you put up a poster at your office, or sell tickets?
I have a volunteer/job list I will send separately to those involved; if you havent signed on, but would like to, let me know.
Our Puppy Love program, (taking puppies to visit folks in nursing homes, shelters, etc) needs more volunteers. Contact Patty Jorwall at
pjorwall@swbell.net
Starting July 5, Pizza Hut will again donate 20% of sales on Monday 5-8PM to HSPC. Think of Monday as Pizza Night! This is any Pizza Hut in Pulaski County, and includes delivery!
Igive - Another easy way to help HSPC! An organization called
iGive.com.
If you sign up with them, and specify HSPC as your preferred charity, whenever you shop online at any of about 500 merchants, a percentage of your purchase goes automatically to HSPC. All you have to do is sign up. Then, at any time when you are online shopping, if you go to a participating merchant, like, say Lands End, EBAY, or Barnes and Noble, a little note will pop up and tell you what percentage is being donated. There is also a list available of merchants, so you can choose to use the ones involved. This is a great way to help HSPC, especially if you do a lot of on-line shopping!
Kroger Cards - Remember to USE YOUR KROGER GIFT CARDS!! They dont help if we dont use them! And we get 5% of all purchase if you do use them.
All day, every day---help is needed walking, bathing, playing with the dogs and cats of HSPC. The more time you spend with them, the more adoptable they become. You dont need to schedule a timeif you have some time available, just come on down. Were open 11-6 every day, and until 8PM Mondays and Fridays.
Adoptions: Ms Kitty (the dog); Penny Sue; Caragh; and lots of kittens and puppies
