NEWS AND EVENTS

HSPC Week 12/13/04

Our Humane Ed Party yesterday was great! The kids had fun, the animals had fun, and we got lots of great stuff for the animals.

Ann and I figured up a rough total for what the kids were responsible for contributing to the shelter this week, and a low-end figure is $900! And that doesnt include the $750 they won in the parade! They worked hard and deserve a pat on the back. Thanks also to Premium Pet Products in Conway, who gave us items worth far more than the $75 they spent theremore like $580 worth of toys, treats, leashes, formulas, etc for our dogs and cats.

That does not count the blankets, newspapers, used toys, etc. that they also gathered. This is a colossal effort from kids who are not even old enough to drive, and many are on a very limited income. It is even more amazing, because our program is not yet three months old!

Needed: volunteer drivers - We could use a few volunteers to drive animals to the vets for their spays and neuters. This would be early in the morning one or two mornings a week. And also folks to pick them up after 5 and return them to the shelter. If we had a few people, we could set up a schedule so you would only have to do it once or twice a month. This would be a big help at the shelter. If you could help with this, call Kay at the shelter227-6166, and she can tell you which days are scheduled at what locations.

Our Dayplanners are here, and selling fast! They are available at the shelter, Whiskers at the Mall, Wordsworth Books, Caracalla Spa, Winterberry Home, Faux Pas, the Tack Room, Twin City Bank Heights and Riverdale, Delicious Temptations, Tulips, OneBanc-Financial Center Pkwy, Belleview Animal Hospital, Gallops, and NY Bagel. They are really nice, and make wonderful holiday gifts. The price is $20

Saturday, December 18 -- Whiskers at the MallIf you can help, contact Chris at ellischris@uams.edu.

Puppy Love Puppy Love Patty is moving to Sweden in June, and we need someone to take over coordinating Puppy Love. This involves scheduling visits and volunteers at local nursing homes and womens shelter. Patty will be available to give you all the information you need. There is an email list of volunteers, and new ones will contact you as well. Often church, school, and service groups like to make visits. Puppy Love, as you may know, involves taking HSPC pups, and occasionally dogs and kittens, to visit folks in these facilities. It means a lot to those people. If you are interested, contact Patty at: pjorwall@episcopalcollegiate.org and let me know, too.

Collection Boxes: We need help with the collection boxes. We need people to make occasional pick-ups at the boxes, and turn the money into HSPC. If there are a few boxes in your neighborhood that you could service, please let me know, and contact Ann at Celticcanine@comcast.org, also.

Sunday, Dec 19 Birthday Party at the shelter. I need a few volunteers to supervise the kids with the animals.

Kroger Card We just got in a new shipment of Kroger Gift Cards. AND sold them out in one week! I have ordered another batch, and should have by this weekend!

Please remember to use your Kroger Gift Cards when doing your holiday grocery shopping. (You can use them in the pharmacy, too). It is a good way to help HSPC with no extra cost to you!

If you havent heard about Kroger Gift Cards, let me know, and I will explain it. It is also on our website.

All day, every day---help is needed walking, bathing, playing with the dogs and cats of HSPC. The more time you spend with them, the more adoptable they become. You dont need to schedule a timeif you have some time available, just come on down. Were open 11-6 every day, and until 8PM Mondays and Fridays. Some new volunteers have been spending a lot of time with them, and they really appreciate it! Adoptions: Pete; Shirley; Cal; Hopper; Evan; Howie; and several other puppies and kittens.

New Volunteers: Susann Szmania; Karen Woldroff; Sara and Gini Harper; Scott White; Ryan Hill; Amanda Cartwright

Next volunteer orientation: December 20, 6:30 PM at the shelter.

A good way to help animals: This is pretty simple. Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "feed an animal in need" for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising. Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know - www.theanimalrescuesite.com

And remember to check here on our website - www.warmhearts.org - I add new dogs and cats every Sunday night.
