Thanks to everyone who called about transporting to the vet. I think we have enough people for now, and it is a big help

Can you offer a short-term foster home? There are several dogs who have been at the shelter a very long time. These are perfectly nice dogs, just overlooked. A few of them are very shy. We would like to place a few of them in short-term foster homes, where they will get extra attention, love, andsome time out of the shelter! (We are thinking perhaps a week or two).
While we love our dogs, and take very good care of them, theres nothing like a home! Our hope is that they would pick up the social skills and confidence that would make it easier to place them permanently. We are thinking right now of Layla, Sue, and Red (also known as Hays). Or, if you have a particular dog you know and think would benefit from this, let me know. We will screen these halfway homes carefullyprefer no other pets, etc. If you are interested, or have any questions/suggestions, let me know.
*Wednesday February 2. Organizational meeting for 2006 Dayplanner. 6PM at Janet Jones Company. Think about which committee youd like to work on. If you need more information, let me know.
*Saturday, February 5- Whiskers at the Mall. If youd like to help at the store, contact Chris at: Ellischris@uams.edu
*Puppy LoveIf you are interested, contact Patty at:
pjorwall@episcopalcollegiate.org and let me know, too. Christina Ramsey will be taking over when Patty moves to Sweden in June.
*Humane Education---if you are interested in working with kids, contact Ann at
Celticcanine@comcast.net She has lots of exciting projects going on, and needs help.
*February 10 from 7 until 10: The second annual Mardi Paws will be held at the Holiday Inn East (Airport). The event, sponsored by Bobbisox and the Little Rock Bop Club, will be a dance with a silent auction, games, etc. We will have a few puppies and kittens for the crowd to wow over and need volunteers who can pick them up from the shelter and take them home for the evening. We can also use some volunteers to help with the auction, as well as a few auction items. The cover charge is an optional $5.00. All benefits go to HSPC. This is a great outing for volunteers to get together in a festive situation and celebrate our animals! Last year this event made $1700.00. Let's see if we can top it! Come dance, or watch the wonderful swing dancers in action! Kimber and Lorrie have offered to take puppies.
*Susan Vogel Memorial Marathon - Holly Roper, of Female Physique, is running the first annual in honor of her mother, Susan Vogel. The Marathon is April 17 in New Jersey. (The New Jersey Marathon) All her sponsorships are being donated to the HSPC. She has already raised several thousand dollars, and hopes to raise $50,000. To read more about this, and how you might help this great event, information is our website, or contact Holly at Holly Roper

All day, every day---help is needed walking, bathing, playing with the dogs and cats of HSPC. The more time you spend with them, the more adoptable they become. You dont need to schedule a timeif you have some time available, just come on down. Were open 11-6 every day, and until 8PM Mondays and Fridays. Some new volunteers have been spending a lot of time with them, and they really appreciate it!
Adoptions: Spot; Samoy; Baby and Andre (together), Bonita; Dawn; Ben; Spot; Holly (cat); All the puppies in the WebCam room (theyre being picked up today, so are still on camera!); Clara; Cassandra and lots of puppies and kittens.
HSPC T-shirts are only $8 for volunteers, and we have lots of great colors at the Mall store, and some at the shelter. Good to wear them when volunteering at the shelter, or at off-site events.
