NEWS AND EVENTS
HSPC Week 12/27/04
I hope everyone had a good holiday, and enjoyed the snow, and that all the Christmas puppies and kittens went to homes that will love them forever.
Volunteers needed - We could use a volunteer to drive around on Saturdays and pick up donations. These are things that have been arranged for us, and can only be done on Saturdays. Saturday is a busy day at the shelter, and we really need our staff at the shelter. Perhaps a few people could alternate, or we could get one steady and a back-up. If interested, call Kay at 227-6166 for details.
We could use a few volunteers to drive animals to the vets for their spays and neuters. This would be early in the morning one or two mornings a week. And also folks to pick them up after 5 and return them to the shelter. If we had a few people, we could set up a schedule so you would only have to do it once or twice a month. This would be a big help at the shelter. If you could help with this, call Kay at the shelter227-6166, and she can tell you which days are scheduled at what locations.
Our Dayplanners are here, and selling fast! There are just a few left at each location. They are available at Whiskers at the Mall, Wordsworth Books, Caracalla Spa, Winterberry Home, Faux Pas, the Tack Room, Twin City Bank Heights and Riverdale, Delicious Temptations, Tulips, OneBanc-Financial Center Pkwy, Belleview Animal Hospital, Gallops, and NY Bagel. They are really nice, and make wonderful holiday gifts. The price is $20
Saturday, January 1 - Whiskers at the Mall Will be closed! The shelter will be closed, also.
Puppy LovePatty is moving to Sweden in June, and we need someone to take over coordinating Puppy Love. This involves scheduling visits and volunteers at local nursing homes and womens shelter. Patty will be available to give you all the information you need. There is an email list of volunteers, and new ones will contact you as well. Often church, school, and service groups like to make visits. Puppy Love, as you may know, involves taking HSPC pups, and occasionally dogs and kittens, to visit folks in these facilities. It means a lot to those people. If you are interested, contact Patty at:
pjorwall@episcopalcollegiate.org and let me know, too.
Collection Boxes: We need help with the collection boxes. We need people to make occasional pick-ups at the boxes, and turn the money into HSPC. If there are a few boxes in your neighborhood that you could service, please let me know, and contact Ann at
Celticcanine@comcast.net (I had the wrong email address the last two timessorry!)
ANDin order to help us make a complete list of all the collection boxes, if you see one in a store, please let me know. We are trying to make a complete list of all locations, as we have lost track of some of them over the years! (Some folks have been reporting to me, and the list is started!)

We have anew shipment of
Kroger Cards. Some are at the shelter, and some at the store. Please remember to use your Kroger Gift Cards when doing your holiday grocery shopping. (You can use them in the pharmacy, too). It is a good way to help HSPC with no extra cost to you!
If you havent heard about Kroger Gift Cards, let me know, and I will explain it. It is also on our website.
All day, every day---help is needed walking, bathing, playing with the dogs and cats of HSPC. The more time you spend with them, the more adoptable they become. You dont need to schedule a timeif you have some time available, just come on down. Were open 11-6 every day, and until 8PM Mondays and Fridays. Some new volunteers have been spending a lot of time with them, and they really appreciate it!
Adoptions: Rosa; Jordan; Polo; June and Regan; lots and lots of kittens and puppies.
New Volunteers: Bonnie and Buddy Greenwood; Don Mikel; Hayden Allred; Heather McCutcheon; Liz Mooney, Liz Coble, Brenda Veerhusen (and the Girl Scouts); Stacy Griffin
Next volunteer orientation: January 3, 6:30 PM at the shelter.
A good way to help animals: This is pretty simple. Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "feed an animal in need" for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising. Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know -

And remember to check here on our website -
www.warmhearts.org -
I add new dogs and cats every Sunday night.
For the Warm Hearts and Cold Noses...
