HSPC Events 4/11/05

Note: I am in the process of switching the volunteer email lists from my work computer at IK, to my Yahoo account. Today I will send it from both accounts, nancyt@IKelectric.com and info@warmhearts.org

If you DO NOT get a copy from the nan513@yahoo address, please let me know, so I can make sure you did not get dropped in the transfer. If your address is AOL or Yahoo, you will probably only get the nan513 one.

If you no longer want to get HSPC e-mails, let me know and I will delete your address from the list. Thanks for your help in making this change.

Puppy Love Puppy Love---the following visits are scheduled. If you would like to take part, contact either Patty at Pjorwall@hotmail.com , or Christina at ramseyresources@aol.com

April 23 - Woodland Hills Nursing Center Riley Dr off BarrowChristina

Please let them know if you can help, so they can confirm the visits. If you are interested in doing visits during the week, please let Christina know, and she will schedule it. Her phone # is 766-6662.

Update on "Puppy Mill" puppies: We have many of these dogs and puppies. Ms. Crawford is out on bail, and trying to get them back. She will have to go to court, and that can take months. We cannot put them up for adoption, or even place them in foster homes, until the case goes to court, and she loses. Meantime, HSPC, as well as some other agencies, are caring for them, and assuming all expenses, including considerable vet bills. It is also a big strain on our staff. People are being very generous with donations, and we appreciate everything we get... therefore...

HELP - The shelter is currently understaffed, and overcrowded. If you have a few hours that you could spare to help clean, feed, walk, etccall Kay at the shelter-227-6166and see what she needs most and when. I think she especially needs help in the morningcleaning cages and getting the animals ready for the day. Thank you for any help you might offer!

Saturday, April 16 - Whiskers at the Mall. If youd like to help at the store, contact Chris at: Ellischris@uams.edu

Day Planner - If you want to have your pets picture in our 2006 Dayplanner, let me know and I will send you a page purchase form We are limiting the number of pages, so it will be first come; last year we had to turn folks away! We also have updated information on the Warm Hearts website - Community Dayplanner

Could you provide a Temporary Home? - We are still looking for some short-term fosters for some of our animals that would benefit from time away from the shelter (who wouldnt). Some time spent in a loving home might increase confidence and social skills, and make them more adoptable. If you are interested, or have any questions, let me know.

Puppy Park Karen and Susann have been setting up a Puppy Park on the west side of the shelteran enclosed pen with a pool, umbrella, and chairs, and toys for the dogs... They take out all the puppies and small dogs, and watch them play and have fun. The dogs have been having great times. But Karen and Susann cant do it as often as they would like which is every nice day! If you want to sit in the sun and watch puppies have funlet me know, and I will ask Karen and Susann to give you some advice on how to make it work as well as it has been.

All day, every day---help is needed walking, bathing, playing with the dogs and cats of HSPC. The more time you spend with them, the more adoptable they become. You dont need to schedule a timeif you have some time available, just come on down. Were open 11-6 every day, and until 8PM Mondays and Fridays. Some new volunteers have been spending a lot of time with them, and they really appreciate it!

One of our volunteers has put racks with poop bags by each door. Please take some and pick up after the dogs you walk! Now that it is nice weather, people will be spending more time outdoors with the animals. Lets all help keep it clean!
