HSPC VOLUNTEER EVENTS - April 5, 2004
Thanks to all who brought in bedding, and who put out the word. We have received lots of nice items, can still use lots more. Old blankets, quilts, towels, bath rugs, sheetswe can use them all. And we also need meat baby food. We have so many babies right now.
Saturday, 4/10/04 Whiskers at the Mall--our offsite adoption center and storewe need help 10-4, and transporting animals. If you can help, contact Chris Ellis at
dcellis@uams.edu. Also, we need help Friday night bathing animals and getting them ready. The staff really appreciates the help Friday night.
Saturday April 10 Easter Carnival at Saddle Creek Church 10Am to 1. We can take merchandise and adoptables. I really need some volunteers for this fun event. The kids were so excited when they heard we were coming.
Saturday April 10 - Pet Photo Shoot at the mall store. There is a nice poster on the web--think about printing it out and placing a few where folks can see them. The pictures have been wonderful, they can include kids with the pets--it's a good deal for the money, and a good fund raiser for HSPC! And Ann and Robert can use some help. This is a good opportunity to have Easter pictures made of your kids and pets!!
Day Planner - The horse lovers of Arkansas are working with the Humane Society of Pulaski County in a project to raise funds to support the Society in its efforts to rescue abused and abandoned animals, including horses.
The project is a beautiful spiral bound day planner for 2005.
You can help by purchasing a page with a photograph of your dogs, cats, ferrets, horsesor all of the above, plus your children, grandkids, etc. And by showing the information to anyone you know who might be interested.
We are modeling our planner on the ones successfully produced by animal groups in Tulsa and Santa Fe. There's a sample at the shelter that wed be happy to show you. They are really beautiful and useful, and will make great gifts. There is a picture of this years Tulsa planner on our web site,
On the home page of our web site, you can go to
*new-2005 day planner* for pictures, prices, and sponsorship forms. We will have a picture of our own cover art available soon.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the Science Diet cards. We are now up to date; we have fulfilled that part of our commitment to Science Diet, part of their wonderful shelter feeding program...
We have firmed up our 2004 Dog Wash Schedule. Check it out
here on the web site.
Friday April 23 - Earth Day at the Zoo. We set up an information booth and take adoptables.
All day, every day---help is needed walking, bathing, playing with the dogs and cats of HSPC. The more time you spend with them, the more adoptable they become.
Adoptions: lots of cats and kittens
New Volunteers: Larry and Martha Price; Haley Arnold; Teri Abraham; Alison Clowers; Deanna Tripp. I know some of you have already put in several hours at the shelter, and it is much appreciated.
Also, we have lots and lots of
mama cats with newborn kittens, who would love to have a nice temporary home for a few weeks. These are easy fostersmamma does all the workjust needs food, water, a litter box and some gentle attention. They usually stay in one place and tend the kittens. We are running out of nursery space---it is really kitten season! And the kitties do so much better when they are in a home.
If you would like to help, call Julie or Vickie at the shelter-227-6166.
I want to remind everyone that if they ever have problems or questions about helping at the shelter, please let me know.
Check our web site:
www.warmhearts.org; I update the adoptable cats and dogs every Sunday night. I didnt add any pictures this week, camera is broken!) And check in on
the KTHV web cam. You might catch a kitty or puppy doing something cute!
Due to the many computer viruses out there, you may be getting e-mails with my name (Nancy Thaden) on them. My subject lines almost always start with HSPC; if you get something that looks suspicious, either contact me, or delete it. Don't open any attachments.
For the Warm Hearts and Cold Noses...
