NEWS AND EVENTS
HSPC Events 10/24/2005
Hurricane Pets - Last Saturday we took in about 60 dogs and cats from a shelter in Mississippi. Many wonderful volunteers came out to help, and to walk and water the animals that were going on to Fort Smith. Late Saturday night and early Saturday people came to foster the dogs; the cats all have respiratory infections, but will be available soon . Almost all of the dogs went home, and a lot of them are being adopted. Many have to be treated for heartworms. They are all great dogs and cats.
Saturday the 22 was our 13th annual Reigning Cats and Dogs. It looks like the best ever--so many great auction items, so many people! Don't have any totals yet, but will let you know. Major thanks to everyone who helped.
HSPC Alumni -
If you, or anyone you know, has adopted a shelter animal...we are looking for alumni pictures. We want to make a giant poster of alumni for our 60th anniversary early this spring. Mail to the shelter, and put it to my attention ; make sure you tell us about the animal, and if you remember his or her shelter name, please include it. Or email it to me and I will print it.
Work on our Dog Park has begun!! Should be finished in two-three weeks. The dogs are already thinking about games and teams, and all the fun they will have.
Hurricane Supplies - Many people from the Housing Authority came to help load the trucks taking supplies to Louisiana; one of our volunteers arranged this, and we don't know who, but we want to thank him/her. They were great!
Day planners - ur day planners are now available, and they are beautiful. They are available at many places, and the list, plus a mail order form will be posted on the web site soon. They make great holiday gifts.
Want to do something nice for the shelter dogs? Donate a Kuranda bed. Heres how: go to www.kuranda.com and click on donate a bed. Select our state and then select HSPC. Choose the size bed you want to donate. The choices are: Large, $54 and X-Large, $64. These beds have been tested by our Ozzie. Ozzie loves the bed and, believe me, if Ozzie can't destroy it, nobody can.
HSPC will be notified of your donation, and the bed will be shipped directly to HSPC. These are indestructible, raised beds, which will keep our dogs off the cold concrete floors, and also help them to have a clean place to sleep (or lounge). If you have a particular dog you want to donate a bed for, let me know, and I will see that he/she gets it.
Whiskers at the Mall. Saturday October 29-- If you would like to help at our mall store contact Chris
at ellischris@uams.edu
October 30--Birthday Party at the shelter. Please consider helping me and Hayden.
Saturday November 5--HSPC Day at the PX at the Air Force BAse. Anyone want to take adoptables?
November 11-- Second Friday Art Night in Little Rock. Rivermarket ArtSpace is dedicating a percentage of sales this night to HSPC. We can have dogs and cats there, and hand out information. Plus have a good time!Second Friday Art Night is a lot of fun--free trolley rides from gallery to gallery; food, wine, art...and this time, cats and dogs! ArtSpace owner Debra Wood is an HSPC supporter, and recently adopted a darling kitty from us You can check her web site at:www.rivermarketartspace.com - click on "gallery news." We will be needing a few Dog escorts. Erin has signed up, and Jennifer M.
Also, volunteers, think about helping with adoptions. More animals get adopted if the potential adopters get personal attention. Helping with adoptions is my favorite thing to do, but I am not there all the time. If you like seeing our dogs and cats going to wonderful homes, and would like to help with adoptions, let me know, and I will be happy to get you started. Stephanie has started doing this, and she has had great success. People love the personal attention, and even if they don't find the perfect dog or cat, they leave thinking very well of HSPC!
Kroger - A reminder --if you have an HSPC Kroger Gift card, don't forget to use it! And we have some more, if you know anyone who wants one. We earned $479 from August use of Kroger cards.
Puppy Love---We still need more volunteers for Puppy Love. Christina would like to schedule more visits. You can contact Christina for more information at: ramseyresources@aol.com Her phone # is 766-6662 .. Christina has a lot of people on her list, but is having a hard time getting teams together for visits. This is something you can do with your kids!
Adoptions: Ramona; Misschie; Midas, Princess, and lots of puppies and kittens.
Next volunteer orientation: Oct 24 6:30 PM at the shelter
