NEWS AND EVENTS

HSPC Events 9/5/05

Donations and Foster Homes - We have had a wonderful response of donations and foster homes. Today we are sending an 18 wheeler with supplies to LSU, where ASPCA will take over distribution. Everyone in Arkansas has been amazingly generous and helpful; the folks we have met from Louisiana are overwhelmed by the generosity of Arkansans.

We need a short term foster home for five adorable Himalayan kittens. They are about 5 weeks old, and eat from a dish. They are not quite old enough for shots and adoption, and there are some sick kitties at the shelter, so we would like them to stay somewhere else for a week or two. They are gorgeous.

Saturday September 3--Dog wash. We took in $1345; some of it is donations for hurricane relief. Volunteers Gene, Denise and Jessica, Margie, TeVee, Billye and Stoney, Ludwig and Kristy from Civitans, Marek and John all were there, and as always, we appreciate your hard work..

Reigning Cats and Dogs---We had a wonderful turn out at our meeting; If you are interested in helping with registration, check out (cashiers), ticket sales, publicity, poster distribution, and/or set up and take down at the event, or table monitor, let me know and I will have the committee chairman contact you.

Whiskers at the Mall. Saturday Sept 10-- If you would like to help at our mall store contact Chris at ellischris@uams.edu ...

Good News: As you probably read in the paper, the dogs seized in VanBuren County will not be returned to the "owner", so we can now proceed to find good homes for the large number of those dogs that have been in our care for months. We still have some available, if you know some one who wants a Chihuahua, MinPin, or other small dog, have them contact Kay at the shelter.

Dog Play Area - Thanks to the hard work of Karen and Susann, we got a permit to build our doggy play area. We are now working on funding. We did get a donation for a major part of it, but still need more. This is really going to happen!!

September 6--GMAC--need a few folks to take dogs and cats, and answer questions at GMAC, toconvince their employees to choose HSPC as their charity. Thursday, same at Nuvell-- Pat, Wrenne, Caroline and Sara D are going. Norma is going to stop by with some kittens

September 17--Dog Wash at Kroger 9-2; need help! Our last dog wash for 2005!

Oct 1 - Pageant at University Mall proceeds to HSPC. Do you, or someone you know have a gorgeous little boy or girl? Volunteer Brittney Ward, who runs pageants, is running one with proceeds to HSPC. If you want to participate, or want more information, contact Brittney at brittney1979@hotmail.com. I have entrance and donation forms, too, if you want some.

October 21--Third Annual AYPN Golf Tournament. Go to www.aypn.org and click on Paws for the Cause for more information and application form. We need volunteers for this! If interested, contact Richard Morgan at casperbryantmimi@yahoo.com

November 11--Second Friday Art Night in Little Rock. Rivermarket ArtSpace is dedicatiing a percentage of sales this night to HSPC. We can have dogs and cats there, and hand out information. Plus have a good time!. Second Friday Art Night is a lot of fun--free trolley rides from gallery to gallery; food, wine, art...and this time, cats and dogs! ArtSpace owner Debra Wood is an HSPC supporter, and recently adopted a darling kitty from us.You can checck her website at: www.rivermarketartspace.com - click on "gallery news."

Also, volunteers, think about helping with adoptions. More animals get adopted if the potential adopters get personal attention. Helping with adoptions is my favorite thing to do, but I am not there all the time. If you like seeing our dogs and cats going to wonderful homes, and would like to help with adoptions, let me know, and I will be happy to get you started

A reminder --if you have an HSPC Kroger Gift card, don't forget to use it! And we have some more, if you know anyone who wants one.

Puppy Love---We still need more volunteers for Puppy Love. Christina would like to schedule more visits. You can contact Christina for more information at: ramseyresources@aol.com Her phone # is 766-6662.. Christina has a lotof peple on her list, but is having a hard time getting teams together for visits. This is something you can do with your kids!

Pizza Hut-- the new vouchers will be on the website shortly.. They include a 10% discount for the bearer on the purchase, (no other coupons will be accepted.) The current fund- raiser is dead. The new one begins this Monday and is extended through November. 20% of your purchase will still come to HSPC. Think Pizza on Mondays. I can email you some to print out if you ask.
