NEWS AND EVENTS
HSPC Events 8/15/05
Folks, Ive been having trouble getting these newsletter to you each week, because some email services see them as
spam, and filter them out. I have no way of knowing which aren't delivered unless someone lets me know that they havent been getting them. I am trying new ways to send them. If this is the first one you have received in several weeks, please let me know, and I will know that the way I am sending them today works! Also, sometimes the header will say "SPAM-HSPC....". this is because I send so many at once. It is safe to open.
Volunteers, remember that you are all ambassadors for the Humane Society. Please remind everyone you know that:
- We are a no-kill shelter
- We receive no money from the city, state or other organization
- We are solely supported by donations, fundraisers, and bequests
- We provide veterinary care for every animal that comes in to our shelter. Some times the care is extensive, and our bills are staggering.
- We investigate and help prosecute animal abuse
- We have many community outreach programs, such as Puppy Love, and Humane Ed
- We spay/neuter every animal that is adopted
- We need help maintaining all this
We need to get the word out, and to let folks know who WE are, and what we do.
Saturday August 20--Dog wash at Kroger. We need help all day, and especially at 8:15 setting up.
Whiskers at the Mall. If you want to help at our mall store, contact Chris at
ellischris@uams.edu
Sunday August 21- Birthday party at the shelter-- 2-4PM
Tuesday August 16--Plan review at City Hall. It is our hope to get a playground built for our dogs. We have been working on this for a long time. Karen and Susan n have designed a play area that should offer the dogs a great place to play, and enhance the appearance of our property. We have filed for a building permit, and have passed the first review. The final hearing will be before the City Board of Directors August 16, at 6PM at LR City Hall. Neighbors who might be against it will have the opportunity to come and speak. Please consider coming to show your support of this improvement to our shelter, and to the lives of our resident dogs...
WED AUG 17, HSPC NIGHT AT THE TRAVS GAME. If you would like to escort a dog, contact John S at
jschissel@sourceincusa.com
Saturday August 20 Kidz Fair at Alltel Arena 9-4--need dog escorts! Please consider taking a shelter dog to this fun event. The dogs love the attention. So far, Sara Faris, the Julie and Roy Miller, and Stacy Griffith are going. More would be welcome.
Oct 1, Pageant at University Mall - proceeds to HSPC. Do you, or someone you know have a gorgeous little boy or girl? Volunteer Brittney Ward, who runs pageants, is running one with proceeds to HSPC. If you want to participate, or want more information, contact Brittney at
brittney1979@hotmail.com. I have entrance and donation forms, too, if you want some.
Reigning Cats and Dogs---RC&D now needs people to head/be members of committees for : Ticket Sales and distrubution; Poster distribution; Checking in of items at the hotel; Set up; Cashiers; Monitors; A general meeting is planned for Tuesday August 30, place to be determined, at 6PM. Please think about attending, and signingup to make this event a big success.
November 11- Second Friday Art Scene in Little Rock. Rivermarket ArtSpace is dedicatiing a percentage of sales this night to HSPC. We can have dogs and cats there, and hand out information. Plus have a good time. Second Friday Art Scene is a lot of fun-- free trolley rides from gallery to gallery; food, wine, art...and this time, cats and dogs! ArtSpace owner Debra Wood is an HSPC supporter, and recently adopted a darling kitty from us. You can check her website at:
www.rivermarketartspace.com
- click on "gallery news."
Also, volunteers, think about helping with adoptions. More animals get adopted if the potential adopters get personal attention. Helping with adoptions is my favorite thing to do, but I am not there all the time. If you like seeing our dogs and cats going to wonderful homes, and would like to help with adoptions, let me know, and I will be happy to get you started
Pizza Hut is helping again this year. HSPC will get 20% of sales on Monday nights from 5-9. However, this year, a voucher needs to be turned in when the pizza is ordered ( or picked up). You can download them from our website , or pick up some at the shelter, the Mall store, or a dog wash. Or I can email you some to print out.

A reminder --if you have an
HSPC Kroger Gift card, don't forget to use it! And we have some more, if you know anyone who wants one.
Puppy Love---We still need more volunteers for Puppy Love. Christina would like to schedule more visits. You can contact Christina for more information at:
ramseyresources@aol.com Her phone # is 766-6662.. Christina has a lotof peple on her list, but is having a hard time getting teams together for visits. This is something you can do with your kids!
We are still looking for some
short-term fosters for some of our animals that would benefit from time away from the shelter (who wouldnt). Some time spent in a loving home might increase confidence and social skills, and make them more adoptable. If you are interested, or have any questions, let me know.
Adoptions: Natasha; Cora; Colton John; lots of kitens and puppies
New Volunteers: Rachel Green; Marty Nordufth; Miranda Traw; Marlee Haggard;
Next volunteer orientation: August 15, 6:30 PM at the shelter
