NEWS AND EVENTS

HSPC Week 11/13

Foster Homes - We need some foster homes.
  • #1. A sweet Shepherd type (but only about 34 pounds) about to have pups. Needs a quiet place to have and nurse her puppies.
  • #2. A small (12 poundish) friendly little dog needs a peaceful place to raise her three precious newborn pups;
  • #3. NEW A little fluffball (Maltese/Peke mix) and her seven little pups. These are the cutest puppies I have ever seen; about three weeks old, they are mobile, and nursing and eating from a dish. They need to stay with their mom, so need a foster home where they can be kept in a utility room or somewhere where they won't be too messy, or get in trouble. And of course it must be inside.
As usual, we will furnish all supplies, vet care, etc that they might need. Call Vickie or Kay at the shelter--227-6166, and let me know, too.

Dog Park - Saturday was the grand opening of our Dog Park; Margaret Clark, Karen Waldroff, Hunter Brown and Kay Jordan cut the ribbon, and all our dogs and puppies ran out to play. They had a great time. They played so hard for a few hours, that when Channel 16 got there at 3, they were all dragging their paws, and resting on the benches! Again, thanks to Bill and Margaret Clark, whose generous donation made it possible, and Karen and Susann for making it happen. Sign Express/Archway Graphics donated the signs, and Hunter and his scout troop did major landscaping. Katie and Chris, Shannon and Sara, Kristi, Jennifer, Tricia, Wanda, Caroline, John T, Karen H, Lyn, Jill...and many others came out to set up, clean up, and make it a festive day for HSPC and its resident canines.

November 11--Second Friday Art Night in Little Rock. River Market ArtSpace was lots of fun. Our doggies Scottie, Camille, Tiger Lily, Peaches, Margaret Ann, Tidbit and Scarlet met lots of new friends, and volunteers Jennifer, Erin, Pat B, Anne, Tricia, and Lara and Michael were there with John and me. ArtSpace owner/volunteer Debra is donating a percentage of the evening's sales, and we appreciate it.

Thanks to Denise, who brought our Boyd back to us. He is thin, but still sweet, friendly, gentle Boyd.

The AYPN Golf tournament made $4000 for us. Thank you AYPN!, and Richard, for working on it. Reigning Cats and Dogs made about $50,000, and we are thrilled about that. So many people helped with that...Debbie H and Melissa were the chairmen, and made it all come together. Blue Cross had a day where, for a donation to HSPC, an employee had the privilege of coming to work in very casual attire. It made over $2500 for our animals! Thank you, Anne. If this is something you think would work at your organization, I could get you the details

Don't forget our 2006 Day Planners. They are on sale at a store near you, the shelter, and by mail. Check the link to our website. Or go to www.warmhearts.org, and click on the headline about Day Planners, for a list of outlets, and a mail order form.

Interested in taking puppies to visit folks in nursing homes? Contact Christina at ramseyresources@aol.com And we are still looking for some Humane Ed people, and public speakers. Vickie is leaving us this week, and one of the many things she did was speak to civic and church groups. If you think you could do this, let me know, and we can talk about it. We have a film we show, and puppies to take--you don't have to do much more...answer a few questions.

Kuranda Beds - Want to do something nice for the shelter dogs? Donate a Kuranda bed. Heres how: go to www.kuranda.com and click on donate a bed. Select our state and then select HSPC. Choose the size bed you want to donate. The choices are: Large, $54 and X-Large, $64. (The large ones are big enough for any of our dogs)

These beds have been tested by our Ozzie. Ozzie loves the bed and, believe me, if Ozzie can't destroy it, nobody can. HSPC will be notified of your donation, and the bed will be shipped directly to HSPC. These are indestructible, raised beds, which will keep our dogs off the cold concrete floors, and also help them to have a clean place to sleep (or lounge). If you have a particular dog you want to donate a bed for, let me know, and I will see that he/she gets it. Bing, Camille, Olive Oyl, LittleFeet, Brent, and a few others already have beds ordered for them.

Whiskers at the Mall. Saturday November 19-- If you would like to help at our mall store, contact Chris at ellischris@uams.edu He always needs help

Holiday pictures of your animals..we will be offering this at the new Bath Junkie shop at Bowman Curve on December 3 and 4th. From 11-3. Tell you friends to be sure to get a picture of their pets with Santa. Five pictures for $15. I also have posters if you can put some up. Bedford Camera is donating the photographer and the supplies, so all money goes to our animals!

A reminder --if you have an HSPC Kroger Gift card, don't forget to use it! I just got 50 more cards, if you know someone who wants one.
