Letter from Suzanne H:
Kay Jordan called last night from New Orleans and asked me to broadcast the amazing news that she and her search group have actually found and rescued thirty five live animals from the Hurricane Katrina area !!!!!!
Kay and Leslie Raines, the director of FuRR, left last Sunday morning for a second trip to the Hurricane Katrina area. They are staying in a FEMA tent in St. Bernard's Parrish and have access to food, water, hot showers, and flushing toilets which they appreciate very much. She and her co-workers are having amazing, unexpected success in rescuing animals that have managed to stay alive since Hurricane Katrina !
Specifically, Kay told me tonight about a Rottweiller that she had finally coaxed to eat out of her hand after several visits. Today while she was feeding it, its owners arrived and there was a grand, tearful reunion....including tears from Kay and Leslie.
There are many such success stories that they are documenting with pictures and notes.
Perhaps we can find an underwriter to produce a documentary to be shown on AETN to illustrate the importance and success of after-catastrophe rescue of pets.
Congratulations to Kay and Leslie and THANKS to all of you who donated to the relief fund that made the trips possible !

Saturday, November 5an adoption event at Little Rock Air Force Base. We really need a few folks to drive some dogs out there. They will have a set up for us; we just need to have some dogs/puppies, newsletters, etc. We can even take merchandise; we finally got in the T-shirts. We have one volunteer so far. Please think about helping at this event. I need to tell them ahead of time who is coming, to make it easier to get through security.
Our Dog Park as almost ready!! The plumbing is in, the fencing is almost complete, and the woods have been cleared. Trees have been planted, and the benches and signs are ready to be installed. The dogs are already thinking about games and picking teams, and about all the fun they will have. Look for notice of a ribbon-cutting in the next week or so. Karen and Susann worked tirelessly to make this happen, and it is appreciated by not just us, but all the dogs that will have a nice, safe place to run and play!
Our Day Planners are now available, and they are beautiful. The list of places to purchase them, plus a mail order form, are here on our website www.warmhearts.org -
They make great holiday gifts.
Kuranda Beds - Want to do something nice for the shelter dogs? Donate a Kuranda bed. Heres how: go to www.kuranda.com and click on donate a bed. Select our state and then select HSPC. Choose the size bed you want to donate. The choices are: Large, $54 and X-Large, $64. These beds have been tested by our Ozzie. Ozzie loves the bed and, believe me, if Ozzie can't destroy it, nobody can.
HSPC will be notified of your donation, and the bed will be shipped directly to HSPC. These are indestructible, raised beds, which will keep our dogs off the cold concrete floors, and also help them to have a clean place to sleep (or lounge). If you have a particular dog you want to donate a bed for, let me know, and I will see that he/she gets it. Bing, Camille, LittleFeet and a few others already have beds ordered for them.

Holiday pictures of your animals..we will be offering this at a few locations. One of them will be at the new Bath Junkie shop at Bowman Curve on December 3. I will have more information shortly.
Nov 20--Birthday Party at the shelter. Please consider helping.
November 11--Second Friday Art Night in Little Rock. Rivermarket ArtSpace is dedicating a percentage of sales this night to HSPC. We can have dogs and cats there, and hand out information. Plus have a good time! Second Friday Art Night is a lot of fun--free trolley rides from gallery to gallery; food, wine, art...and this time, cats and dogs! ArtSpace owner Debra Wood is an HSPC supporter, and recently adopted a darling kitty from us You can check her website at:
www.rivermarketartspace.com - click on "gallery news." We will be needing a few Dog escorts. Erin has signed up, and Jennifer M.
Also, volunteers, think about helping with adoptions.
More animals get adopted if the potential adopters get personal attention.. If you like seeing our dogs and cats going to wonderful homes, and would like to help with adoptions, let me know, and I will be happy to get you started. Stephanie has started doing this, and she has had great success. People love the personal attention, and even if they don't find the perfect dog or cat, they leave thinking very well of HSPC!
Kroger Cards - some more, if you know anyone who wants one. We earned $479 from August use of Kroger cards. Ill have Septembers total shortly.
