**Twenty one dogs went to the St Patty's Day parade, and had a wonderful time! Thanks to
everyone who participated,(too many to name!) and especially to Jennifer W and Sharon,
who provided a beautiful new banner, and fun costumes.
**Some students at UALR want to do an adoption event at the school on Monday 4/7 from 10-4;
we would really like to have some HSPC people help transport, and be there to answer
questions. Is anyone available to go? We really need some HSPC folks there.
We need some data entry help. Karen and Susann have been doing all the entries into our
ASM/Petfinder shelter management program, and would love some help photographing and entering
the animal information. They will be happy to train you. Please let me know if you would
like to help with this, and I will put you in touch to set up a training session..
Laura has set it up so we have several animals featured each week in the Free Press!!

** Central Arkansas Hunter Jumper Association (CAHJA) first horse show will be March 22 and
they are donating the proceeds of all concession sales, raffles and a portion of the entry
fees to the Humane Society. We would love to send a lot of adoptables..Ann is taking Travis,
Justin is taking a dog..we could use several more. Kay is taking two horses!!! If you would
like to take a dog, or help at the food and raffle booths let me know. It is at the Maumelle
Equestrian Center, and starts at 9AM. That's this weekend, so please let me know.
The shelter will be closed Sunday for Easter.
**April 18/19 is Earth Day, and the Zoo has invited us to set up with handouts and adoptables. The dogs we take always enjoy it
. We'd love to have at least 8 people on Saturday, and will be happy for as many as we can
get on Friday!! We plan to have a book showing all of our adoptables, a poster for Special
Friends Sponsorships, and lots of adoptables in person (or "in dog?")
**April 26, "Craws for the Paws" fundraiser at RiverMarket west pavilion. Craw fish, beer,
live music, fun...this is not an HSPC event, but one that should be fun, and will benefit us.
We can take adoptables. For more info click on....http://www.CrawsForPaws.com.
We are going to take part in the Adoptathon, a national program arranged by the North Shore
Animal League to help get a lot of animals adopted. Our Adoption Committe is working on ideas
to promote lots of adoptions May 3rd and 4th. We are talking about a Carnival at the shelter,
with fun, games and food. We are looking to some people for promotion..radio, print media,,
TV stations. Debra, Ali and Jamie are going to help with this, but others are welcome. And we
are looking for a sponsor(s), to help us get the materials we need. We are considering renting
an inflatable bounce room for kids, provide food and drinks, and some games. Also gift
packages for adopters. Any one with any ideas let me know, and I will forward to Brad, who is
in charge!
We have some really nice HSPC merchandise available, some for volunteers, some for everybody.
Go to our our website, click on New Merchandise and check it all out. Shirts, totes, bibs,
license plate frames, dog outfits, hats...some with our logo, some with beautiful designs by
Little Rock Artist Les Waite. And HSPC makes a good percentage on all items
Check our websifor information on buying a page, or sponsorshop, of the 2009 DayPlanner.
We are already selling pages, so don't wait too long...last year we had to turn away people,
or the book would be too thick!!
Also new on our website is information on the 2008 Children's Be Kind to Animals Art Contest.
If you have a school age child--K-12, or are a teacher, consider taking part in this fun
activity.
We need a foster(or permanent) home for a 4-5 month old calico kitten until we have room for
her at the shelter.. She is spayed, has shots, etc. Contact me if you can help.
Super Suppers in North Little Rock will donate 10% of the sales to the Humane Society if you
go there on the following dates: (You must mention that you are purchasing to help the
shelter.)
Friday, March 21,
Saturday, March 22
Thanks to Elizabeth McMullen for doing this for us each month!
**Dr Medlock, our staff vet, has put a green binder up front, for volunteers to write down any
illness or problems that they might observe. She promises to look at it first thing when she
comes in.
