HSPC EVENTS September 2002Volunteers Needed:
Sunday, September 8--- Birthday Party at shelter, 2PM. Need volunteers to help get dogs leashed up for walking, supervise kids for about an hour. There is usually a very hectic time at a party when every kid wants to walk a dog, and it's hard to get them all ready at once.
Saturday, September 7--- GRAND OPENING of the HSPC store at University Mall 10-4. Need volunteers to bathe dogs early at HSPC, and transport to the Mall to help get adopted. Also, we need help with merchandise sales. We have some nifty new T-shirts! Again, if you have a dog in mind that you'd like to take, let me know. This will be a regular Saturday event.
Saturday September 7--- PetSmart, from 12 noon to 3pm. You'll need to pick up your dog around 11. If you have a favorite, let me know.
Saturday, September 7--- Dog Wash Dip, and (optional) Blessing of the Animals at Trinity United Methodist Church. Our last Trinity wash for 2002! If you can help, contact Nancy Thaden at 224-7859 or email info@warmhearts.org Dog Wash for 2002 - Saturday June 29, 2002

Dog Wash for 2002 - First Saturdays: June 1, July 6, Aug. 3
Trinity United Methodist Church, Evergreen and Mississippi--First Saturday of every month through September--6/1;7/6; 8/3; 9am-2pm, $15; optional free flea and tick dip
Dog Wash for 2002 - Third Saturdays: May 18, June 15, July 20, September 21
Kroger in the Heights--1900 N. Polk--(the one that's just been rebuilt) Third Saturday May through September 5/18; 6/15; 7/20/ 9/21. 9am-2pm, $15; optional free flea and tick dip
First Dog Wash for 2002 - Saturday May 11
The first HSPC Dog Wash and Dip for 2002 will be on Saturday May 11 at Trinity United Methodist Church from 9am to 2pm. Thank goodness for the HSPC volunteers who help with this event!
Adopt-a-thon - Sunday May 5
There will be an outdoor fair on HSPC grounds on Sunday May 5. We will be showing our dogs and cats, selling HSPC merchandise, and will have a sale of plants and herbs, perhaps baked goods (for people and for dogs).
Henderson RC Airplane Club- Saturday May 4
The Henderson RC Airplane Club is having HSPC Day at Henderson Field - and all funds go to HS! We need some folks to take shelter dogs, etc. Volunteers are needed for this event.
Private Birthday Party- Saturday May 4
A private birthday party for a ten-year old is scheduled at the shelter. HSPC did a party for his sister last year. The kids bring gifts for the animals instead of the birthday child. The family provides lunch, decorations, etc. We show an animal film and let them play with puppies and kitties. The party will be from 11:30 to 1:30. Volunteers are needed to assist.
Puppy Love Program
HSPC Volunteers also visit nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities with the HSPC Puppy Love program, taking puppies to those in long-term care facilities, to add a little sparkle to their days.
Companion Dog Training Classes - March 9
Companion dog training classes are offered for the public and for the HSPC shelter dogs. A new class started on March 9, taught by the great volunteers from the Little Rock Dog Training Club.
Childrens Birthday Parties and Scout Events
HSPC Volunteers will continue children's birthday parties and scout groups in the HSPC education area on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as weekday presentations at the public schools through the Humane Education progam.
