Little Rock, Ark. - The Humane Society of Pulaski County (HSPC) is eager to share its 2006 Day Planner with Arkansas, and will line the shelves of local merchants with books beginning in October.

The 2006 Day Planner is a highly stylized bound calendar produced by a committee of volunteers who work tirelessly all year to ensure its success. Last year's inaugural effort raised $55,000 for HSPC, surpassing the working revenue goal of $20,000 by nearly two hundred percent.

This year the calendar acknowledges pets adopted through rescue efforts - including HSPC - with a special asterisk by their photograph.

"This calendar was inspired by a similar project in Santa Fe, New Mexico," said Chairperson Sammye Johnston. "The awareness built through last year's inaugural effort in Pulaski County resulted not only in revenue, but equally important it found homes for many pets already in the protective custody of HSPC."

187 photographs are featured over the 245 pages of the Day Planner. There is also a special memorial section for deceased pets, with touching quotes on how they enriched the lives of their owners.

"We see our pets each day but seldom do we see them through the eye of a camera. It's that captured moment that can warm our hearts and make our day a little brighter as we juggle busy schedules and appointments," Johnston said.

"The book is an excellent idea for holiday giving as it is useful for 365 days, and it supports the tireless efforts of so many compassionate, selfless HSPC volunteers who are in the field each day doing their best to provide for animals that would otherwise perish," she said.

1250 books were printed this year and will be for sale at points across Arkansas beginning October 15, 2005. A complete list of available retail outlets is available here on the web site.
